I was spanked more than just occassionally by my parents and have yet to kill anyone. I also can't think of any of my friends who were spanked killing anyone. Spanking does not make people more prone to violence because there are more people in jail not then before, and parents are spanking less.
And no one I know had ADD, ADHD, ODD or any of the other alphabet soup of disorders that cropped up since the 80s and spanking went out of fashion. When my parents got a phone call from school saying that their child was misbehaving, rude and disruptive I wasn't disagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and medicated. My mother picked me up after detention and spanked me promising the next time it would be during school, not after. There was no next time; I was cured without a psychiatrist or medication.

Some parents go overboard and let their aggressions out that way. I don't see anything wrong with an old-fashioned over-the-knee spanking over pants or underwear using the hand. It won't make as much of a mark and if anything the redness will just be temporary. It's not like you're sitting there with a hairbrush or a cane and just whacking them until their butt starts bleeding or leaves open sores. That's when abuse starts. Spank enough so that you know they're sorry or they start crying, basically, so that you know the point has gotten across. I was spanked when I was young and I think I turned out alright.

You are so freaking right its unreal,I am glad someone thinks the way I do,my parents spanked me up until I was 16 years old, and occasionally with a belt. I love my parents very much and do not hate them for anything they did when I was growing up,I love and respect them and I grew up knowing that they loved me enough to care about how I turned out and held me responsible for my actions even though it hurt them to do so. It is insane to me how people freak out about spanking now a days, look at the statistics, look at all the school shootings, all the violence in school, teen pregnancy rates, teens using drugs, and the freakin ignorant *** parents just sit there and moan and cry about how they dont know what to do. I'm honestly thankful my parents wouldnt put up with that kind of crap, the fact that they wouldnt have hesitated to deliver some old fashioned discipline where it does the most good whether I was 6 or 16 probably did me alot of good.

I don't know. I must say that I agree with you!! Every child is different and so are the ways they need to be disciplined!! If a spanking is in order than so be it. Now do I believe in sending my child out back to get a branch from a tree so that I can beat her? OF COURSE NOT! There is a fine line of abuse and discipline and if my four year old acts up then you better believe that she will get a spanking!!!

Unfortunately in today's society people don't stop at just a spanking. I agree with spanking, as a last resort. Unfortunately you got people out there who thinking giving a child a beat down is acceptable...its totally not. Some people think it is best to avoid spanking because someone will be less likely to cross the line into abuse. That is my guess.

I think most people that have a bad idea of spanking have had a negative experience with spankings or beatings in the past.. maybe not to them, but to someone they know. So they think all spankings are negative.

Your totally right. I was spanked as a child and I'm not going and killing any one. But my parents don't let me spank my kids because they are worried about the laws these days. My kids need to be spanked from time to time but No child deserves to be beaten!! SO I agree with you.

There is nothing wrong with disciplining a child with spanking. We just need to make sure it is out of love not anger.

Yeah, I've never heard of a child growing up and becoming a serial killer because he/she got spanked.
Spanking is sometimes necessary - it's so much better and more effective then the useless time out - that's for wimpy parents who want to be friends with their kids, instead of their parents.
Haha :) But I'm married without kids so I've got it made!!!

Don't forget - we live in a generation of "time outs".
We were all hit as kids and none of us 5 kids have any issue's as adults. All of us grew up to be responsible, hard working and successful - not to mention grateful for everything we have.
