If you were with a girl for a year and a half....when would be the right time to give her a promise ring. I know people that have gotten one after 4 months..so when do you feel is the right time?

Honestly, I think promise rings are a waste. What are you promising? That you might someday be willing to get married? It's stupid. Just wear his class ring or something.

Personally I'd never give any girl a "promise ring." Either put up or shut up -- propose or not, but a promise ring is worthless as both a symbol and a statement. Are you really so insecure that you need a piece of metal on your finger to "insure" that your boyfriend will some day propose to you? Can't you take his word that he wants that too, but isn't ready for it yet? If you don't trust him to the point you have to have some physical manifestation of that "promise," then you've got much bigger issues than any promise ring is going to solve. Sorry, that's just the way I see it.

How old are you? A promise ring to me would mean that we would not date anybody else. I would have used a promise ring when going away to college, and you should know what happens at college (they meet someone else more interesting).

Hey you sound like a very young girl, enjoy dating, but don't make any promises. You have a whole life ahead of you. Life is a learning experience no matter how old or young you are.

glw is right.

The right time is the right time. You'll know it when it comes. I got mine 10 1/2 months into the relationship, my engagement ring 3 years into the relationship and we married a year after that. So far we're still going strong and will be married 8 years this winter.

A good way to determine when a ring is given is after 1 year... getting to know your special someone in the 4 seasons of the year only takes 1 year.

So, 1 year is good.

The right time is when a man feels deeply inlove with the woman. When he feels that he can no longer live without the woman. Or when he feels that the girls has become a part of himself. Say after 2 years or 3.

When you know your "the one" and that can take as long as 2 years. Bu m ore than likely if the person is "the one", they would skip the promise ring and get an engagaement ring.

Do you know what a promise ring is for? it's basically saying "I promise to give you an engagement ring." Plus a promise ring does not say that he won't cheat on you....

look at his job/career see how much he is making, buying a 200 ring is easy, but that is not what you women think, maybe it is not the amount of the ring, but men are very into getting a big ring.
personally, I would rather use $4000 up at buy a massage-chair then a ring. At least the chance of getting it lost is less. Plus if we break up, you can't throw the massage chair at me. :)
