The radioactivity of exploded Depleted Uranium munitions used in Iraq during this second Iraq war is the equivalent of 250,000 Nagasaki Atomic Bombs. This is from a paper presented at the ‘World Uranium Conference Weapons Conference’ in October 2003 which stated that "calculated that 800 tons of DU is the atomicity equivalent to 83,000 Nagasaki bombs. The amount of DU used in Iraq is equivalent to 250,000 Nagasaki bombs. Professor Yagasaki affirmed that DU shells are atrocious radioactive weapons which should not be used ; and that DU has a long life of 4.5 billion years remaining in the soil , air ,water in all affected zones."
Still support Bush using nuclear warfare against innocent civilians in a country that never attacked us and never could have or would have attacked us?

The Pentagon--at least in 2003--still insists that exposure to depleted uranium munitions causes no ill health effects. That position does not track with the statistics that show increased birth defects and cancer in Iraq following the first Iraq war. It does not track with the increased uranium levels in the blood and semen of Desert Storm veterans exposed to DU a decade after the war.
The New York Academy of Medicine strongly advises that every armed forces member returning from Iraq be tested for exposure, that the Iraqi people be warned of potential contamination, and that the coalition army clean up the hazardous DU shell and armor fragments, etc., left behind. Since DU is radioactive it can be detected and cleaned up. The Pentagon resists following these recommendations.
We would not allow a radioactive site in downtown Los Angeles to remain. We should not allow radioactive munition fragments to remain in Iraq. It's akin to leaving an unexploded mine field behind.
The Pentagon loves depleted uranium, because armor piercing shells made with DU slice through tanks and armor enriched with DU are nearly pierce-proof. DU is pretty amazing in that it holds its shape better than any other material and on impact, it actually sharpens itself rather than breaking up. On impact, some of the round turns into aerosol that if inhaled or ingested leads to lung cancer (the Pentagon will admit this fact) as well as kidney damage and other health problems. Toxic when in dust or gas form, it's radioactive properties mean that it will cause ill health effects forever (billions of years equals forever from my point of view).
While depleted uranium isn't quite the same as exploding a nuclear warhead, DU munitions are toxic and radioactive and will cause serious health effects and birth defects for the local populance long after the army using them leaves the field.

I think this is terrible! We, as a nation, need to wake up and demand that our voices be heard regarding this war. It isn't common knowledge, but there is a campaign underway to disallow many citizens the opportunity to vote their conscience. I do not believe that the size of a persons paycheck should enter into the fact of whether or not they get to vote.
