Rice challenged former Pres. Clinton's claim that he did more than many of his conservative critics to pursue bin Laden, & she accused Pres. Bush's predecessor of leaving no comprehensive plan to fight al-Qaida.
RICE: "We were not left a comprehensive strategy to fight al-Qaida," she told newspaper editors , which is owned by News Corp., which also owns Fox News Channel.
CLINTON; That's the difference in me & some, including all of the right-wingers who are attacking me now," Clinton said ."They ridiculed me for trying. They had 8 mos to try, they did not try.
"What we did in the 8 months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton administration did in the preceding years," Rice said

Hummm
Osama still alive..Here we are in a war. A serious, what we know now was an innecessary, what some have categorized, as an ILLEGAL,war. US troops dying everyday.

& we still quibble over Osama

The only way to bring an end to the problem of terrorism is to stop adding fuel to the fire of terrorism. This, of course, would involve actually coming to terms with the underlying causes of terrorism. The short answer to the problem of terrorism is, first, to treat acts of terrorism as criminal acts to be dealt with under the framework of law, and secondly, not to exacerbate the problem of terrorism by committing acts of terrorism ourselves. Once it really sinks in just how unnecessary and unjustified the Iraq war is, it is hard not to see the slaughter of up to 228,000 innocents civilians an act of terror that dwarfs the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Rather than bringing and end to the problem of terrorism, bringing democracy to Iraq through an act of terrorism will only further fan the flames of terrorism.

P.S.
If Osama bin Laden's objective is to bankrupt us, he's succeeded. And our leaders are complicit. I'm not writing merely about the staggering bill for war. All the mudslinging and turd tossing that pass as party politics contribute significantly to our decay and, especially, the Bush worshippers' smear that Democrats and those opposed to the war in Iraq are protecting the terrorists.
This isn't just Swift Boating; it's Titanic sinking, sentencing us to moral bankruptcy-a belly-flop to the bottom of civilization.

While the Clinton administration did miss their opportunity to take Bin Laden out, the Bush administration did not even wait for an opportunity. They just went in and blew the hell out of those people.
So everyone has their faults. You're right in saying that this arguing is ridiculous. It seems now that they are ignoring the real issue of troops dying, and replacing it with some sensationalized kindergarten $hit.
We'll see I guess what Bush comes up with for his campaign though. I'm sure it'll be just as blinding and preposterous as his "Mission Accomplished" scam. Hopefully the big difference will be that the voters won't fall for it this time.

The reasoning behind all this verbiage and moral outrage, is that Rice is being groomed as a presidential candidate. This gives her a chance to get her name in the paper, to take a couple of swats at Clinton without actually having to do anything, and to appear to be one of the good guys.
It's a useless exercise, but one that the political nabobs feel is important, to raise her profile from behind GWB's persona, and make her appear to be standing on her own two feet and making challenging statements of this kind.
The interesting part of all this, of course, is that she, personally, has done nothing yet, so has nothing to present to the public except for a perception that she would do better than someone who has long been out of office.
Ain't politics grand?

The present administration and their minions at Faux News (don't forget ABC, either) are trying to re-write history. Clinton had a record of at least doing something about OBL during his administration, including leaving a comprehensive plan in place to roll back Al-Queda but BushCo ignored it. The actions and inactions of possibly 4 administrations led us to this point. Bush was focusing on anti-missile defense while the "19" were finalizing their hijack planning.

Regardless of where blame ought to be laid, the fact is that given the current geopolitical climate, and how much more dangerous Bush's policies have made us and the world, even if OBL is captured, the current nightmare will continue.

No, this argument should be continued, until Penis Clinton, the former fuhrer of the US, will finally stand trial for war crimes. Yes, he "did his best" to stop Bin Laden, by helping Islamic terrorists in the Balkans. Penis Hitler, Adolph Clinton, or whatever the name of this Nazi murderer is, should be brought to justice. I swear to God, on the grave of the people this Nazi murdered, that I will keep on mentioning this issue, until this Nazi is finally brought to justice.
