Finish high school with the highest grades you can manage.
Go to a pre-vet school for 4 years. Plan to study LOTS of things not immediately relating to animals: lots of chemistry, biology, math, etc
Get good grades. Go onto vet school for another 4(?) years. It's been said that it's almost hard to become a vet than it is a Medical Doctor.
In the meantime you can improve your resume and get experience by working at a vet clinic, vet assistant, or similar work. This kind of work will help you with your studies and make it a little easier to get into vet school.
Be prepared to study A LOT! Also be prepared to take out big student loans, since vet school isn't cheap.

You need to go to a Vet School BUT be warned that it takes at least 3 years longer to be a vet than to be a doctor!
It is the longest certification path ever!
The joke is that doctors only have to deal with two basic models while vets have to know about hundredes of different 'models' [i.e. animanls]
Read the Herriott "All Creatures Great and Small" books. It will inspire you to be vet.
Best wishes. P.S. You can make GREAT money as a vet.

There are only a few vet schools in the US and competition is fierce. Cornell has probably the best program. I know of people who have gone to Scotland to attend vet school there and have been very happy with the school.

Up a cow's backside and out again...
Seriously, you'd be best off doing Science A-Levels and then applying to do a Veterinarian degree (look this up on the UCAS website for details of unis that do it)
Also, get as much hands-on experience with animals as possible, even if it's just mucking out horses or volunteering at the PDSA.
