how about having family nite or day (which ever is suitable); maybe play board games (monopoly), cards, etc..and have sandwhiches, chips, soda, or make it a themed family nite or day where it could be "mexican" make tacos, or hot dog heaven day make hot dogs w/ a selections of toppings such as chilli, relish, mustard, shredded cheese etc. another idea is a family appreciation nite of sweets; pick up frozen pies or store bought cake, cookies and make ice cream sundaes for them.... good luck. i commend you for wanting to do something like that! my mom helps out tremendously w/ my children and she is in an entirely different city, state, so I miss out on doing these types of things.

You could invite them over for a nice dinner that you prepare, and your husband and you could take turns telling each of them how you feel about them, love, respect, apprieciation, etc. If they are helping you out they obviously know you dont have the money to do anything elaborate, and it truly is the thought that counts, especially with your mother, i believe any action of appriciation would catch their attention and mean alot to them- good luck, and I hope things begin to look up for you and your familly, it sounds like you have great ties with your mother and her boyfriend you are very lucky.

Buy a thank you card and write a few details about how much you appreciate them in it. They know you are having a tough time financially, so getting them a gift would defeat their purpose of helping you. You could invite them over for dinner as another option.

Why don't you just tell them. And someday when you can repay the favor they will know extra how much you have appreciated everything. What comes around goes around. let them know that if they ever need anything in the future that you'll be there for them

actions speak louder than words. and at your mom's age, seriously, what could you buy with money that she needs? nothing.
