I was wondering if there is any way of "predicting" that you are having twins before the dr tells you? I am pregnant (only about 4-5 weeks) and before I missed my period my breasts were very tender, I am extremly fatigued and sometimes nauseous. I did not have any of these things so early with my last pregnancy. Twins run on both the maternal and paternal sides so I was wondering what the chances of this are, etc.

Your story sounds exactly like mine, I'm 5 1/2 weeks and I find out tomorrow if I'm having twins or not. We have three daughters and even though every pregnancy is different this one started out wierd for me. My breast were and are still very sore which has never happened before and my back hurts and I'm exhausted! Twins run on both sides and my husband is convinced we're having them. Me....I'm not sure, but they say that some people have a sixth sense about these things. Like I said, I'll find out tomorrow and let you know if that's true :) Good luck to you!

You may have an increased chance due to twins running on the maternal side of your family. Women can inherit the increased tendency to ovulate more than once per cycle (which is how fraternal twins are conceived.) The paternal side doesn't factor in.

As for your pregnancy symptoms, well they say every pregnancy is different. You could be pregnant with twins or this could just be indicative of the normal variations found between pregnancies.

Assuming you want twins, good luck!

your chances are good considering they tend to run in your family. i'm currently 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant with twins, but this is my first pregnancy with twins that has sustained this long. (still praying everything goes well) my past three miscarriages were single births. the only way i knew is the doctor told me after the ultrasound there were two sacks. i dont think you have more signs or sicknesses...but i dont have much to compare it to, considering my other pregnancies demised by week 5, so you just might. i still had a little sickness and breast tenderness and fatigue, about the same amount as i'm having now but alot of women have a sense about these things.

There's no good way to tell this early. Signs later in pregnancy include:
Lots of movement all over the belly
Being able to feel three large "hard spots" (at least one bottom, one head and one "other" part) in the belly
An ultrasound, obviously, though twins can hide...
Measuring a fundal height that's larger than normal consistantly throughout the pregnancy

Right now, the best you can do it eat well, drink plenty of clean water, exercise comfortably and think positive thoughts. You'll know soon enough if you need to buy one car seat or two!

Good Luck!

As the mother of 4, inludeing a set of twins, i can tell you that 5 weeks along is way too early to know if you are haveing twins. Most woman tend to worry about the unknown, when there is nothing else to worry about. Your body is defiently changing, but nothing at this point will indicate twins.

No there is no way to predict twins until you go to a doctor. I have had twins so I know. I found out at 4 weeks I was preggo with twins... your body does not react any differently than a singleton pregnancy. Every pregnancy is different.

There is no way to tell, but your chances are pretty high if you have twins on both sides of the families. Only the ultrasound will tell as not even the beta-HCG test is a reliable indicator of how many embryos you have.
Good luck!

A family history of fraternal twins increases your risk of having fraternal twins - identical twins are not believed to be hereditary.
Your age will have more to do with it if the twins in your family are identical.

Increased morning sickness can be a sign of carrying twins but the other symptoms you have are not.

Good luck!

Each pregnancy is different so you can't expect the same symptoms. You cant predict twins until the ultrasound.
