It's like they assume that I haven't been patient for a long time and that this is maybe why I am opening my mouth and saying something about it.

And all you morons telling me that if it's bugging me I really need to hear it need a kick in the pants.
Frankly the thing in question is something I've been being patient over for the last 20+ years! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anything, it makes me less patient, and even sort of "itchy"!

You know what really bugs me? When someone tells a child who stutters to "be patient" and "slow down." I mean, that's almost as obnoxious as stuffing that child's mouth with marbles in an effort to cure his or her stuttering. And no one in their right mind would suggest such a thing, right? No, certainly not...

No. I only say it when the person looks like they're about to lose it.
I got annoyed the other day when I called my insurance company and was passed through 6 operators before someone took the call. Then they act like it's your fault, like you've called their direct line or something.
Someone needed to tell me to be patient that day!!!!

It doesn't bug me, unless I am in a doctor's waiting room, and I see an opportunity for a bad pun.

"I can't help it, I am the patient!"

Not if you deeply trust the person saying it to you. Otherwise, yes. It's extremely annoying. And slightly insulting.

It may be someone you don't know that well though. Sometimes that is more about them knowing where you are coming from and you knowing where they are coming from.

The fact that you're getting really upset over this common phrase shows that you're not being patient. :-)

That's usually very good advice, but it will also usually really piss off anyone who really needs to hear it.
