The major commercial film industry in the United States is in Hollywood, while much of the independent film industry is in New York City. The following studios are considered to be the most prevalent of the independent studios (as of August 2006):

Lions Gate Films
Newmarket Films
Fox Searchlight Pictures
Focus Features/Rogue Pictures
Sony Pictures Classics
IDP Distribution
Warner Independent Pictures
The Weinstein Company/Dimension Films
Magnolia Pictures
Paramount Classics
Palm Pictures
Newmarket Films
Picturehouse (formerly Fine Line Features, before Time Warner acquired Newmarket's distribution arm, and merged it with Fine Line to form Picturehouse, a joint venture of HBO and New Line Cinema)
ThinkFilm
Miramax Films
Note that many of the above studios are actually subsidiaries of larger studios - for example, Sony Pictures Classics is owned by Sony Pictures and is designed to develop less commercial, more character driven films, and Fox Searchlight (responsible for surprise hit Bend It Like Beckham) belongs to the same company that owns 20th Century Fox. It is often argued that subsidiaries of major studios, as part of their larger, major studio parent companies, are not "true" independent film studios.

In addition to these higher profile "independent" studios there are thousands of smaller production companies that produce truly independent films every year. These smaller companies look to regionally release their films theatrically or for additional financing and resources to distribute, advertise and exhibit their project on a national scale.

You are really headed in the WRONG direction. You would not be able to walk into ANY studio in Hollywood, big or small. How old are you anyway? This is rhetorical, but you sound like you are no more than 10, asking a ridiculous question like this one. If you want to act, you need to start in school plays, then community theater, then move on from there. Forget running out to Hollywood so they can discover you. Grow up and get real.

If you haven't already done so, the first thing you need to do is get an agent. I can guarantee you that studios won't even touch you if you approach them directly. You have to develop a network of people who have connections inside the industry. Your best bet is to search for talent agencies online and submit your resume/sample work to them. If and when you are recruited, the talent agency will be able to "advertise" you out to various studios/production companies for potential work. Good luck love! Make us all proud and remember me when you get your Emmy!
