I am tired of being the youngest person at the poles, on election day," I'm 49". The torch of freedom must be carried by the young. The young people of this country must understand, " there's no eazy way to be free". When I go to vote I see all of these elderly ladies in wheel chairs, with oxygen bottles. They have to have someone drive them to the poles. I always let them ahead of me in line, because even going out at all is a hardship for them. If people who are so old that even leaving their homes is such a struggle, why can't young people show up and vote? The political partys are not even going to bother to put anyone on the ticket, who might do something to help make this country great again, for every one, not just the rich! The political parties on both sides have learned that the old people will vote for anybody who cliams to be a Christian, even if that person will work agents the interest of the elderly. What would it take to wake the young people of America up?

thanks for all of your answers. Maybe just maybe, if they started the draft, the young people would start taking a more active roll in the shapeing our goverment. After all it's the young people who will be left to deal with a protracted war, and the budget deficit."Oh yeah", and a broken education system, a broken health care system, an out sourced economy, plus a broken bordor, not to mention an energy shortage, how does 7 dollar a gallon gasoline sound to you, my young friends? Well that's where it's headed, and soon, right after the next election. But when you've got good cheap drugs who cares, right?

WE need someone who is going to get dirty in the trenches with us. politicians are rich scumbags out only to get more powerful that they forget that most americans are middle class and cant hardly make it

I think more young people would vote if they had someone to vote for. Most of "the good ole boys" are elected year after year. An its the same old B.S. Congress can agree on anything and the president just wants to act like Billy badass because they called his daddy a name. No offense to you bush lovers. An then again most people could careless. They turn off the news because all they see is these idiots blowing innocent people up day after day.An the president just keeps screaming "lets send in more troops"..Want the young people to vote give them someone to vote for .Someone who is down to earth on their issues.

Don't panic!! lol Young people are notoriously slow to become registered voters. It's all part of the maturation process. Back in the 60's young people were experimenting with various forms of counterculture. It didn't look like they would even survive their youth much less participate in their civic duty. There was this American from Arkansas who grew long hair and a beard, went to college in England and took a trip to Russia, did drugs, drank a lot, had promiscuous sex...some even say he was a "draft dodger." Know his name? Bill Clinton. Another went to Yale, also drank a lot, partied, etc. George W. Bush.

People assume that more people voting would be better. Frankly, I don't want people who aren't educated on the issues voting. Unfortunately, most young people don't have a very deep understanding of politics. I'm 25 and vote but most of my peers don't recognize half the names on the ballot.
The only problem with democracy is that the vote of a fool counts just as much as the vote of the wise.

i have noticed it too.it has gotten worse i think with each succeeding generation.we are becoming to complacent as a nation.
i think it is the old "my one vote won't count".this is especially true after all the ballyhoo that took place after the florida screw up in 2000 and the thinking that the election was "stolen".
in my small town of 600 people i bet only 1 in 3 or 4 eligible voters turn out.
i wish i could answer your question with a real answer but no can do.

You'll never get young people to vote. I will vote (I can vote in the 2008 election)... but its just a personal opinion. If young people have something better to do, then they won't vote. The question should be... why do alot more older people vote? Why do they all feel the need to vote, compared to the younger kids?

A belief that there will be a future. They have your global warming to look forward to. They have your American Hegemony and the hatred of the rest of the world to rectify, They have a second class education system to fix and an infrastructure greatly in need of repair and maintenance. They get to look forward to pay half million dollars for their first house and 100,000 dollars for their student loans. They have your outsourcing to thank for fewer good jobs. Maybe you can promise them that to stop your gluttony, that you will stop consuming and destroying their world before they even get a chance to experience it. Thanks Dad!!!

bucketloads of cash, free beer, wet tshirt contests, racing cars, free booze, all the normal stuff it takes to get young people anywhere.
they have little interest in politics, why encourage those who by choice have little clue about candidates to vote? let the people who actually do a little research decide.

Let them vote from their ipod.
Some senator ( or congressman ) wanted to have a raffle. If you vote, you get a ticket for a chance to win $1,000,000. I think that might do it.

I think you kinda answered your own question. If the parties cater to the elderly, according to your question, they would have to bring up issues more relevant to the younger (my) generation for us to care.
