I am applying for a City Job. I made it through to the interview. At the interview they gave me a test and then I met with a panel of 4. I was called the next day and they congratulated me on being placed on the eligibility list they stated that they would like to see me for a 2nd interview . I will be meeting w/ the director and the manager of the department.

Any tips on how I can better prepare or what to expect?

Show that you are grateful of the opportunity to work for them, yet at the same time, exude confidence in your abilities. They don't know you, and they already have your history of experience. Now, it's simply up to letting the best (wo)man win! And it's up to you to show them that. Go in with your head held high. Make sure you are dressed appropriately. Make a list before hand of questions they normally ask during interviews. (For example, "why do you want to work for us?") Write down the answers to these questions. Even if you don't use your answers during the interview, you may be able to reference to it b/c of something else. Whatever you do, remember to wear a watch (it shows punctuality) and shake the hand of both parties that you meet when introduced, and when leaving. They won't be likely to take the first step to shake your hand, so that'll be on you. A firm handshake still speaks volumes, believe it or not. Good luck! Hope this helps!

Come prepared with questions you'd like to ask the Director/Manager, e.g., tell me what you believe are the #1 priorities of the department/this position? Compliment the talented team of people you've already met and recap what you learned from that meeting. Be prepared to talk about what kind of a work environment you find most stimulating and your own personal work style.

First, be confident.
Don't be overbearing, show a willingness, eagerness, and ability to be flexible and able to adapt.
Try to learn exactly what the job responsibilities are and address those responsibilities. Don't take charge of the interview, but don't be pulled by it. Try to balance it so that the Q/A goes in the direction of your strengths.

Look sharp, feel sharp and act sharp. As a long time job hunter who now works for a local government I am convinced it's a people thing (assuming you know the job).

Remember: Positive thinking won't let you do anything but it will let you everything better than negative thinking will.
