What do you think about having 3D ultrasound is it save or can it
harm the baby?

There is no evidence that ultrasound hurts the baby. But since ultrasound waves cause tissue cavitation. the ultrasound dose should be kept as low as possible. I would never have a 30 minute 3d session, bombarding my growing baby with high intensity sono waves, that seriously no one really knows the repercussions of yet. Having a medically necessary ultrasound is one thing 2D or 3D , but for entertainment purposes, you are needlessly exposing the baby to something no one knows anyting about. The body that governs the use of ultrasound is lobbying the FDA to shut these 3D studios/spas down, because they are operating without a license, and make long DVDs

The question is always, what will NOT having this test hurt?

The only good reason to have a 3D ultrasound is to diagnose a problem that can't be accurately assessed using a normal ultrasound.

There are growing concerns surrounding the use of ultrasound technology during pregnancy. Check out this article before you make your decision:

Good Luck!

With my last pregnancy and this one as well I'm sure I've had ultrasounds every two weeks because of complications. My last one I had three 3D ultrasounds and they were awesome! It's perfectly safe for the baby, but it's a very real concern for many expectant mothers. Good luck and congrats!

Ultrasound is an oscillating sound pressure wave with a frequency greater than the upper limit of the human hearing range. Ultrasound is thus not separated from 'normal' (audible) sound by differences in physical properties, only by the fact that humans cannot hear it. Although this limit varies from person to person, it is approximately 20 kilohertz (20,000 hertz) in healthy, young adults. Ultrasound devices operate with frequencies from 20 kHz up to several gigahertz.Ultrasound is used in many different fields. Ultrasonic devices are used to detect objects and measure distances. http://eastmedradiology.co.nz/our-services/ultrasound/

Ultrasound is defined to be a sound with frequencies over 20kHz which cannot be heard with the human ear. Certain animals use ultrasound for communication and navigation, for example, baby rats call to their mothers with high pitched squeaks which people cannot hear. Dolphins and whales use ultrasound to echolocate and find their way around in murky or dark water. Bats have an amazing sonar system, which helps them to navigate their environments and detect prey.

it's still debated whether ultrasounds during pregnancy harm the fetus (it has been shown to be for rats/mice but no direct correlation to humans yet) but many women have several for medical reasons (I had 4 or 5)

it would probably be safe to do so, but only once!

3-D ultrasounds look cool, maybe I'll try that for the next baby : )

there is no actual evidence that an 3D ultrasound or any other type of ultrasound will harm the baby...just ask the sonographer performing the 3D to be on the safe side...but in my opinion its totally safe.

I've never had a 3D. I think they show too much of the features of the baby. Yeah, it's great but I'd rather wait until the baby is born to see what he/she looks like. Ultrasoudns don't harm the babies.

I had a 3D ultrasound with my daughter and everything is fine. It is amazing to see your little one nestled inside you. They wouldnt perform ultrasounds if it was harmful to the baby or you.
