Wait until the calendar year of an election. Contact the election commission and get qualifying papers. Qualify to run.
Start saving up your pennies. Buy alot of signs. The average voter will need to see your name 3 times.
I hate to admit it, but in my experience, signs win elections.

Depends whether you want to affiliate to a political party or stand as an independent. If standing as an independent you must decide what your policies will be then when you know of a local election, usually local council, put your name on the list. Then the hard work begins with you having to print your election material and knock on doors. Remember this will take a lot of time and money as if you poll too few votes you will lose your deposit. If on the other hand you affiliate to a political party you will have to become a member and then go through a selection process. Either way I wish you good luck

The best way is to volunteer to serve on a local advisory committee that deals with a subject in which you have some knowledge. That way you can learn government from the inside. I started out serving on the Contractor Licensing Board for my county, then volunteered to work as a volunteer on the re-election committee for my County Commissioner. You could do that and build on it as you learn.

Depending on your political persuasion, you may want to contact a local politicians office and express an interest to them. Seek their advice on what you need to do. Not all politicians are cold hearted and nasty. Also, if you strike out with the first pol you try, screw them, find another.

Contact the local political party of your persuasion and they'll be happy for you to attend one of their branch meetings. Just don't expect too much.

um
no offense
but if you don't know enough about local politics to know how to get involved, how do you consider yourself prepared and informed well enough to politically help your constituents?
