DON'T GET AN IPOD. I have several reasons:

1. They are extremely overpriced (you can get a 20 GB mp3 player for less than the price of the 4 GB nano)
2. They break. I used to have an ipod but it broke, and I know 3 other people who had ipods which broke
3. Its no longer a unique thing to have, everyone has one now
4. Dont be a brainless drone who follows retail trends

As for what you should get instead... I dont know. I know a few people who have creative zens and they seem good, but If I was you I would go for the cheapest possible one that is large enough for you and buy some music with the left over money.

I would personally get a Sony Walkman mp3 player in the NW range (start from 70 euros to 400 euros). they have good battery life of 30 hours and a single charge of 3 minutes gives you 3 hours in an emergency. The bundled sonic stage software works like a dream. i have had NW-E005 for a while now and i love it. its not as bulky as an ipod and the screen as really modern and sexy it is as if it has been beamed into the side of it and glows up nicely too. personally i think the ipod is a waste of time showing photo's and video's as the screen is too small to look at for a period of time and will n ot show up enough detail. an mp3 player should be just that! and the Sony Walkman is a reputable worldwide brand. don't be a sheep and get an ipod, stand out with a Sony walkman.

If you're running Windows XP on your computer, get an IPOD. The OS is very user friendly and the Accy's are easy to find. If not, look into an IRiver -- I think they will work with OS's that aren't Windows XP... Other people might bash IPODS, saying that they break or whatever. But you only hear that because 9 out of every 10 MP3 owners have an IPOD. Of course you'll hear more about them, because there are more of them out there. I've had one for three years and have beat the hell out of it and it works great. I could not imagine life w/o an IPOD.

Get a Samsung Flash player.

Doesn't have a HDD so if you accidently drop it, there is no chance the drive will crash.
