How the grade affects your GPA depends on the school. At some schools they don't show up on transcripts and have no effect on GPA. At other schools, they do show up.

If you are transferring or applying to graduate school, you can include a paragraph in your personal statement explaining why you received a W.

The "W" grade always looks better than an "F"; however to many "W" grades on your transcript is not a good thing. It shows that you might not be the person to follow through with what you start. so try not to get them if you can avoid it because it could and can effect your chances to getting to a UC.

It means withdrawl... that you attempted the class and for whatever reason you decided you could not continue... it does not effect you GPA.. However.. if you are in the habit of doing this.. a Admissions person might get the impression that you are the type of person that doesn't complete tasks.. or gives up when it gets too hard..

It usually stands for "withdrawn." Generally, the "W" does not apply towards your overall G.P.A. From looking around on the Internet, it seems that universities handle W's somewhat differently. You should check the catalog/bulletin of the university you're attending. (what is "UC" ?? - Univ. of California, Univ. of Cincinnati?) It will spell that out for you. Most universities even have an online version (in .PDF) that you can browse through.

It means you "withdrew." It better than failing but worse than not having that class show up at all. Someone evaluating your transcript will think that you either decided too late that the class wasn't for you or that you were failing and bailed before the grade would show up. If the rest of your grades are fine, I wouldn't worry.

It is shown as a withdrawl. They will assume that you withdrew from the class because you were failing it. It tends to look bad, but not as bad as a failing grade. If you're going to withdraw from a class do it before the deadline.

A "w" does not do anything to your gpa. However, graduate schools (if you apply) will see it and say, "well, this person does not finish things they start." If you only have it is not a big deal, but do not do it more than once!

It just means withdrawl...it will not count for or against you.
