I can relate....I hate the headphones that came with my ipod. I wasn't able to enjoy my ipod for the first few months until I got some new headphones.......You can find them at apple.com, Bose, and best buy. They have diffrent styles, so i'm sure you'll find the one compatible with your husband.

all headphones are compatible with it. police even tell you to change them as muggers can spot ipods from anywhere because of the recnogisable headset

Sennheiser 300CX-B In Ear Phones. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E1DSAE/002-7282676-5603255?ie=UTF8

Sennheiser 500MX Earphones. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004Z0BO/002-7282676-5603255?ie=UTF8

Try one or both of those to test out. The 300's are $50.00 at amazon. They come with different size inserts.

And both of those have better sound quality than anything you can get from apple.

These two choices were the best I found after doing quite a bit of research (at least in my price range) If you're willing to spend $100.00 You can move into the Shure noise cancelling earphone range. http://www.amazon.com/Shure-E2c-Sound-Isolating-Earphones/dp/B0000CE1UO/sr=1-1/qid=1159294809/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-7282676-5603255?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

I hate those little earbuds too.

Try noise canceling headphones. They are a little expensive, but well worth the investment.
