My granddaughter has been on an apnea monitor since 4 months of age. Her most recent sleep study indicates Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. In otherwords, they say her tonsils are too big and need to be removed.

I am curious if other children who have had this surgery had any difficulties with the surgery and/or recovery because of their age?

My son had his adnoids and tonsils removed when he was about 2. There was no complications or problems. He just babied his throat when he talked for a while.

Tonsils and adnoids were removed from me when I was a young child because of infection. There were no major problems, from what I have seen with my children when they were babies they healed much faster as babies than as older children!

I do have sleep apnea though and have to use a CPAP machine. Sleep apnea is not always purely obstructive, but it has nervous system factors usually. What happens is that when a person stops breathing automatically it wakes him up slightly! This awakening causes the person to become semi conscious and take a breath!

These events interupt ones sleep during the night! When one is a baby the noise of the alarm on the monitor will awaken the baby out of deep sleep! Also the parents or care giver can give aid if required!

When I was in an operation I simply stopped breathing! No one knew I had sleep apnea including me! It kinda shook up everyone! Ended up in a sleep lab in a couple of weeks I have never felt better in my life! 61 years young!

She will be well before you know it! Keep the monitor on!

Have a wonderful day!

o.ok.. a million. You get knocked out and also you awaken at the same time as they prefer you to. They administration the anesthesia. 2. i'd presume so, although are you attempting to look sturdy for the docs? Lol. 3. i have by no skill heard of someone staying in a single day for a tonsil operation... possibly they anticipate a tough surgical procedure? (no longer to scare you! It received't make any distinction for you) 4. i don't think of the docs will ask you something. they commonly do the surgical procedure and go away and also you awaken and flow! 5. perfect once you awaken you probable only isn't sore in any respect. you could slowly start up to sense further and extra discomfort yet only take some advil or ibuprofen and also you'd be ok! don't be anxious about the operation! It appears like you're taking a 10 2d nap and then it really is throughout! And once you awaken, you sense large rested and fairly first rate!

When I was about 6 I needed my tonsils out because they were too big and it was hard to breath when I tried to sleep. I did fine with my surgery... I woke up very sore of course but I got better quickly. I'm not sure how your granddaughter will react from the surgery because 14 months is very little, but she should be fine. It was 10 years ago when I had it done, so i'm sure they have improved the way they go about doing it.

I have twin boys who had them removed at that age because of chronic ear infection. We were told the adnoids might grow back ,which they did. They will grow back until the age of 5, that is when they stop growing. They had them removed again at 5yo and have not had any problems with either surgery. Recovery was a few days because of sore throat

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.
