Because they think that review is the best way to help you retain the information. Some children who are not as bright as you may have forgotten the original information.

I very clearly remember thinking how stupid my second grade teacher was not to know that she was saying the same thing that the first grade teacher said. It was at this point that I gave up on the educational system. Likewise the teacher was upset with me because I wouldn't pay attention to her endless drivel.

With my own children, I insist on limited repetition. By law, if I can show them that my child has mastered an area of study, they must provide an adequate educational experience for my child. You can use standardized achievement tests to accomplish this. To make a long story short, the school has to transport my son from middle school to high school. You will learn that you always have to pressure the school for more advanced material.

Because although you may be able to RECOGNIZE an idea or concept, chances are that you won't be able to use it actively and spontaneously until it's been repeated several different times, in several different ways. Unfortunately, many classrooms today are mixed-ability and have students with learning disorders, so a teacher may have to repeat things extra times to allow those students to catch up with the class. This is especially bad in the early months of the school year, because many students forget things over the summer!

I used to wonder this too. Then I saw half the class was befuddled. I realized that some people still could not add fractions even though we had done it four times already.

It takes some people longer to learn that others. See if there is an advanced track or something.

Teachers are not psychics. They don't always know what a class knows and what they don't. Sometimes they have to review information, to make sure no one has missed it. Other times you might know the information, but half of the class does not.

Trust me, as a teacher, it never hurts to repeat certain information. It can be deadly, though, to leave something out, or start at a level that's too high for a class.

Because they want to make sure it's in your longterm memory. If they only teach it to you once, you may not remember it. It's like a habit, the more you do something the more it becomes a habit. They simply just don't want you to forget. Practice makes perfect.
