Is there any reason other than to just have noise?

Pets are used to hearing human voices. If you have the tv on a lot when you are home, the pet may connect the tv with you so, it makes it easier for the pet when you are not home. We leave ours on for these reasons and also because our upstairs neighbors are noisy, and our dog will bark all day if he hears them. The tv is a familiar sound to the dog and covers up the neighbor's noises.
There are some pets that like to look at the tv too. They especially enjoy seeing other pets on the big high definition televisions. So, for those pets, they are being entertained and are less likely to chew up your favorite pair of shoes out of boredom!

Some pets really do enjoy watching the tv and listening to the sounds. It keeps them from getting bored and keeps them entertained. I have a queensland heeler and he loves it when horses come on the tv. He stops what he's doing and watches the tv and listens to the horse nay.

When we left the tv or radio on for one of our dogs he never got into trouble while home alone. We figured he thought the voices meant someone was there. Our turtle watches tv once in awhile...really.

For some reason, my dog will lay down and watch cartoons when I go out. I leave cartoon network on. She really does keep occupied with it! Actually, if I go to leave and don't turn on the TV, she reminds me.

I think its just for the noise so they dont feel that they are home alone. The radio works too.

If you want to leave them with noise, turn on the radio! Other than that, they don't understand what it's about, can't see (most) color, and they probably could care less if it was on anyway!

I leave it on Animal Planet for my dog when i know i'm going to be gone for long periods at a time. she seems to enjoy it. when i'm at home watching animal planet she plops down in front of the tv and watches it very intently, so i figure, hell i'll leave it on for her when i'm gone, gives her company.

It keeps them company when they're home alone. And if it's loud enough, it may drown out other noises, and keep them from going crazy!
