Get a knee length dress that's simple and elegant. Then jazz it up with some cute accessories. Afternoon weddings don't call for formal attire for the guests, but you can play up a daytime look with jewelry, shoes, and makeup. Right now wrap dresses are big, so that could be a safe choice for you. Most of them have 3/4 sleeves, so you wouldn't have to worry about getting chilly. Browse around for styles to complement your figure and coloring.

The other choice is a simple cocktail dress that you play down with very basic shoes and accessories. As long as you keep it shorter (no longer than mid-calf) then you should be OK. If you are a little overdressed, then most people will think that you did it because you are the date of the best man. It's a little more acceptable when you are an attendant's date then if you were just a guest.

You only have a few big no-no's here, so you actually have it easy.
1. Nothing in all white, or shades of white like ivory or cream.
2. Nothing shorter than 3" above the knee. Sexy turns to trashy at a daytime wedding.
3. Nothing ankle or floor length, it's too formal.
4. Platforms and stilettos, they are just too high for weddings. Stick with 3" or under for heel height.
There are a few things to avoid for a traditional guest attire, but they are more acceptable than they used to be. Use your best judgment, and choose carefully if you want to wear any of these.
1. Pants-Should be dressy, not business.
2. Black - pair it up with colorful accessories.
4. Suits-same as pants, you shouldn't look like you are going to a board meeting.
Remember that the attention will be on the bride and groom. Don't try to bring it on to you with overly loud colors, patterns, or super sexy clothing. Good luck and have fun!

Wear a flowy dress (knee-length or tea-length) with flats or wedges (especially if you'll be walking on anything soft, like dirt or grass). Bring a shawl or a cute sweater if the wedding will last through the evening. Even if it were a more casual wedding, you don't want to look completely out of place with your date, so I wouldn't recommend pants or capris. Keep your outfit soft and cute - it is daytime and it is outdoors, so don't get too formal, but do wear something that looks nice.

Oh boy, if I were you I'd be having that best man call the groom and get more details. How formal do they intend for it to be? Maybe a silk short dress in a warm fall color with a shawl in case it gets cool? Good luck!

Black is always nice at at the wedding or maybe a fall color like dark purple. Just not red or white because then you will look like your trying to outdue the bride.
