My doctor said that my 20 week ultrasound didn't show anything serious, but they are going to do a second ultrasound because she didn't think they got a good measurement of the fluid in one of the chambers of the baby's brain. Is this not something to worry about? The ultrasound did not show a mis-shapen head. Are they screening for the possibility of hydrocephaly? If so, what are the statistics on hydrocephaly and are there any good web photos of ultrasounds that show abnormal levels of fluid in different chambers of the brain? Does anyone experienced in this have any additional information about this? When I go in for the second ultrasound - are there specific questions that I can ask? I don't want people hiding the truth - I just want to know what's going on. I'm not afraid.

They simply didn't geet a good reading, and they want to check again to try to get a more accurate picture. If the baby isn't "cooperating", then the sonographer won't get a very good view. The check for hydrocephaly is routine. I got checked 3x for the position of my placenta b/c the baby's arm or leg was in the way. They weren't concerned, they just couldn't see clearly. Happens a lot. This is a good sign that you have a dr and sonographer who are careful and thorough.

I"m with poster #1, try to resist the urge to panic. I'm not a doctor, and odds are that no doctor or xray tech is going to answer this due to the legal liabilities.

The tests are more than likely going to give you MORE peace of mind, not uncover something horrible. They said they "didn't get a good enough measurement", that alone isn't a statement of concern, but more one of caution.

I don't think they'll hide the truth once they know what is or is not going on. However they want to be sure to get an accurate picture of the health of your baby, and that's a good thing.

I hope your baby is absolutely perfect!

they just want to make sure the baby is going to be fine and that in case something happens, they want to have the right doctors and pediatricians at the delivery. you can ask what are the consequences and what could happen if the baby doesn't have enough fluid in the brain. and don't be afraid you will only stress out the baby.

I know you are worried. But PLEASE ask this of your doctor or you are going to imagine all kinds of awful things that probably don't exist and you will waste much time and effort in your worries. Nobody here can tell you this stuff, just your doctor.
