It depends on the severity of the sprain. Mild strain like an ankle roll takes about 2-3 weeks. A more serious injury can take up to a month if not more to heal. ***** SEE A DR. IF SWELLING HAS NOT GONE DOWN AFTER A DAY******* Rest it, Ice it, keep it wrapped and keep it elevated as much as possible. If it just happened keep weight off of it.
Try a hot/cold contrast to help it heal. WARNING if it just happened DO NOT use heat. Give it a few days then do the contrast 10 min ice 10 min heat this will force blood in and out of the area helping it to heal faster. When able to put weight on it get a brace and wear it religiously. Find the best you can afford. Slowly do circles with your ankle, do not force it. When it feels like it is close to full strength do not push it keep doing ankle circles and toe raises and calve raises. Build up the musculature around the ankle aw much as possible to prevent it happening again.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Hi it all depends how bad the sprain is,if you have to go in to a plaster cast or not. Some sprains are just as bad as a fracture.Elevate the foot above your heart, apply cold compress, rest when you can and try to partial weight bear when you can.If no better in a wk go see your gp he will give you anti-inflammatry tablets to help with the swelling and ibrufin tablets.Sprained ankles can take up to 3 wks to heal properly. Are you sure its a sprain? If in alot off pain may be better off to go to your nearest A/E dept to have an x-ray just incase its nothing serious.Good Luck

Alternate ice and heat on it for a few days, then ice it as often as you can think about it. You might find a pressure bandage (ace bandage) makes you more comfortable. Beyond that, moving it and using it actually helps it heal faster. You might also look towards taking some arnica or using a cream with it in it, as that will help the bruising heal faster.

You might be okay for all but strenous stuff in a few days or not, depending on how badly you were injured and how fast you heal.

Taking anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen also help. Tylenol helps with pain but won't help it heal faster.

Everybody recovers differently. Some people take a week and others more than a month. Don't worry, the pain and swelling will go away.

the healing time is directly proportional to the amount of pressure you put on it!

if you rest it totally, it should only take a few weeks (maybe only 1 or 2) to heal. but if you try to put weight on it too much then that delays the healing process.

hope it gets better soon! :)
