Well, say I have to get somewhere and there are anti-war tards blocking the street. I have to get there but they refuse to move, I then drop the H-1 into low, engage the 4 wheel drive and plow thru them. That sure would hurt.

Civil disobedience is breaking the law, even if nobody gets hurt.

Either we are a nation of laws, and those laws get enforced until they are changed, or we ignore the law whenever we feel like it.

Civil disobedience is harmful because it disrespects the rule of law. And by doing so, especially if people are allowed to get away with it, weakens all other laws.

That being said, I personally think civil disobedience is one of the most effective ways to bring attention to bad laws, and to change laws that need to be changed. Certainly better than violence.

When the truth is told and government "feels" that it has no other option but to crack down with violence.

Sometimes, agents provocateurs are sent into peaceful crowds to agitate trouble like what happened in Seattle and Montreal. In DC, no such thing ever occurred because the police were prepared to respond accordingly. No one wanted DC to be as embarrassed as Seattle or Montreal.

I am a proponent for Civil Disobedience and I admire those who utilized it effectively like Gandhi and MLK. My father told me one rule of thumb for demonstrations - when people gather towards one direction - walk in the opposite direction and you avoid arrest and further trouble.
