Maybe someone put that software on it that only lets it get to a certain volume, which Apple released to keep people from damaging their hearing?

Well, if you had bought a Shuffle, you would find that it would go up to a higher volume.

not that i want to encourage you to damage your ears.. but any ipod can be "un-capped" by searching for and downloading free the thing called ""go-pod!! then virus scan/install it connect your ipod.. and choose "un-capped".. .easy....
