Gone With the Wind...the novel (not the movie)
as well as Scarlett the Sequel

The time and era of the novels are wonderful and really capitvates the audience to what it was like during that time. Plus you could tell that at the end Scarlett really loves Rhett, she just didn't know how to go about showing it.

If you haven't read the sequel, I highly recommend it, has a happy ending! =)

Gone With The Wind would top my list if unrequited/frustrated love was the goal. Scarlett and Rhett are unforgettable together. Pure magic.

Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy are unforgettable as well. So Pride and Prejudice definitely top my list as well.

Anne and Gilbert from L.M. Montgomery's Anne series would have to be on my list too. The ending of Anne of the Island is just oh-so-magical as far as romance goes....

Going back further there are some pretty unforgettable Shakespeare couples. My particular favorites come from Much Ado About Nothing: Benedick and Beatrice.

I don't think there's such a thing as The Best Love Story, I mean a story will be better than another depending on how it moved you, 'cause reading is a personal intimate experience. However, in my opinion, William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" sure ranks high among the greatest love stories.

A Tale of Two Cities By Dickens

The guy gave up his life and let another guy live because he really loved the heroine, his final gift to her was the other man, the man he replaced at the guillotine. How great is that?

I realize everyone will kill me (and/or think I'm crazy) - but Frodo and Sam's story in "The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien ranks among the most highly romantic of all time in my book.

Sam would do anything for his "Master" (and pretty much does). Frodo would never have been able to survive were it not for the fact that he knew that Sam loved him and was depending on him. True, they are not a typical couple by any means, but they very much show their devotion to one another in the most trying of circumstances.

I think that is Gone With the Wind. Scarlett and Rhett Butler, with the Ashley Wilkes aside.

Difficult question, because it depends on particular tastes each one of us has.

I think one of the most beautiful love stories ever written is "Love in times of Cholera", by Gabriel García Marquez, the Colombian author of "100 years of solitude".

Hope you can read it and enjoy it!
