I waited a couple of years after getting divorced and decided that I needed a boat and my adult kids are all set so if somethig happened to me they would just sells the rings anyway so I beat the to the punch and had a wonderful summer. Caught lots of fish and had a great tan. No regrets.

I gave mine back. Went to see my father in law, dropped off all his clothes and belongings, and included my rings. I don't want anything from him, and I left him. Divorce papers are on the way. Giving them back will remind him of what he had, what he lost, and what will never be again.
These days he is begging, crying, and goes through a host of emotions and reactions........but I still give no responses. I got a restraining order to keep him from harassing me or trying to talk to me. He breaks it by writing letters, and sending cards. Well I go Monday to make it final. I will bring the letters to show the judge, and get it finalized for the next three years. (Which happens to be the amount of time of a permanent restraining order) Hopefully I won't have to renew.
Sad thing is......I really wanted it to work, and I stayed around WAY longer than I should have because I was hoping. I know what needs to be done, and I'm doing it......but my heart grieves for him still. There was love there. Though it was very off balance and very little to no reciprocity.......I guess it's a part of emotional healing.
Giving them back.......is a psychological move. It messes with their heads. They can act macho for a second.....but given time and considering what they have done, and the consequences of their actions.....then having those rings staring back at them.....with the woman who once wore and represented him gone............it gets next to them.
I'm witnessing it now.

Pawn it? for what. Sell it and be done with it- you don't want to pass it on to a family member - because the marriage didn't last. The ring now symbolizes a failed marriage, why keep it?

I think so...I would not want to look at something my ex gave me. It was obviously a "joke" to him or he would not have cheated. RIGHT? If the ring didn't have any meaning to HIM. Then why should it have any meaning to YOU either??
