Yes. Sometimes it is even needed. You don't have to have sex to get yeast infections, cervical problems, etc.

The recommendation by the American Academy of Family Practice (I used to be one) is to begin having pap smears once you become sexually active or after the age of 18 if not active. This doesn't make complete sense, however, as the pap smear is checking for precancerous changes in your cervix. These are caused by the HPV virus (same virus, but different species as what causes genital warts), a sexually transmitted organism.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting one if you have not had sexual intercourse, but talk to your FP or OB and see what he/she recommends. Theoretically, you are able to do a pap without rupturing the hymen, but I just don't see the point if you are still in your early 20's and the likelihood of cervical cancer is very, very low.

I am assuming that you are wanting to get one but are afraid of it hurting your virginity, so do not be alarmed it can be performed without you losing your virginity.

You can, but you have to really ask for it. I've been to the GYN 3 times and they've yet to do one because I'm not sexually active.
