It would have started in 1994 had it not been for the strike which cancelled the end of the season, as 1994 was the first year of three divisions in each league. As such, the wild card started with the 1995 playoffs.

Hmmm.. it was either 1994 or 1995. 1994 was the strike season so i can't remember if they had wild card that year.

94 was the srike shorten year. it went into play in 95 and has done wonders for the game. they yankees won the first ever wild card that year.
