First of all, what makes you think ONE man is responsible for the economy? IF there was such a man, it was that stodgy, paranoid ninkumpoop Greenspan, who manages to tank our economy from his book touring pseudo-grave.
Let's look at the list:
1. Switzerland:
This is not a country but a lakeside resort. It does not compare to the US in terms of size, population, industry and social infrastructure. This is a bogus winner.
2. Finland
This is a nation of under 6 million people, there are that many people, right now, within 30 minutes of me here in L.A. This is not an economy, nor a nation, but more the equivalent of a metropolis in a traditional, mass economy, like the US, China or Russia. Their GDP is about the same as Wal-Mart's annual revenue. C'mon.
3. Sweden
Ok, SWEDEN! 80% of income is taxed. Do you know how easy it is to run an economy when the government has a monopoly on ALL income derived within the state. Might as well be communist, very easy to compete on a global scale when you pay your employees zilch and ask them to participate in lousy state medical services. Almost all major corporations have 2 board members from labor unions (which represent 80% of the laborers in Sweden). That is NOT competitive, but rigged. The income distribution that is artificially imposed upon Sweden by its government makes it susceptible to recessions in severe ways, where the US is competitive over time on a much more regulated basis. Again, under 10 mil people, this is a big city in a major industrialized nation, not a competent complete economy on the scale of the US.
4. Denmark
COME ON. Denmark? Their taxation scheme allows them to provide welfare to ALL of the population, high income tax rates and a VAT/excise tax rate of about TWENTY FIVE PERCENT! They labotomize their workforce with welfare and then consolidate the riches at the government level. Again, 5 mil people, less than 200 billion GDP, this is a small city government that is easy to run, especially if the cultural demographics are uniform and historically homogenous.
5. Singapore
Singapore is a nation in name only. It covers about the size of Ted Turner's backyard. Yes they are adept at business and are growing at astronomical rates, but a city with about 4 mil people and a monopoly on Indian Ocean trade SHOULD be doing that. This is not an economy on the scale of the US, nor any other major economic nation.
Below are the rest of the top 12. Notice, of the G8 nations, the US is ranked FIRST. This says much about American ability to stay competitive in the higher echelons of world trade and economics. Japan, Germany, UK & Canada all rank below. CHINA, of all nations, is woeful 13th in the world. That makes this list HIGHLY questionable, as China is beating the pants off all G8 members in international trade and economic growth. They should be the MOST competitive, because their labor is either cheap or free prison labor. And the government controls 100% of industry entry and participation.
Bush made a difficult choice that will be harder on future generations from a debt burden standpoint, but in lowering taxes and increasing government spending, we spun out of the 2001 recession and fought a global war in the process. The economy has been humming along, great wealth's been created in Real Estate, Tech and Commodities, and interest rates and inflation have held relatively steady. I'm no Bush fan when it comes to foreign policy or domestic defense, but your question suggests something untruthful. The US is VERY competitive, and offers visas to many foreign workers who contribute to the sciences and technology. The problem is, the influx of unskilled or low-skilled workers is disproportionate. Anyway, a comprehensive review of the list shows the US is predominant among its true peers in competition.
The rest of the competitive rankings for 2006:
6. US
7. Japan
8. Germany
9. Netherlands
10. UK
11. Hong Kong
12. Norway
13. Taiwan,China
14. Iceland
15. Israel
16. Canada

If that study is correct, then why does everyone else in the world envy the American way. You can do any study you want, but this is still the brightest star in the galaxy. If you disagree with that, you might want to consider moving to one of those countries that scored higher.

We need to be a more neutral county!
We have our favorite countries and everyone else is ignored so these countries in turn ignore us.
If our government doesn't like their government we bomb them and ask questions later.

yes, he is responsible.
of course, using the reverse of your logic, he is responsible for you having a job, and any raises or success you have reaped during his tenure.
i accept your thanks on his behalf.
