Flies come from maggots. Flies lay thier eggs in really nasty stuff. They hatch into maggots. Maggots then mature into Flies. flies live about 24 hours.

Howdy....Hope your day is going well.

Most of the answers go for eggs/maggots, but there is a beautiful aspect to it. The Mayfly lays her eggs in the water of a stream or lake. The eggs hatch and turn into a nymph which is an ugly looking crawly/swimming creature. It hunts and kills other nymphs and very small minnows and sticklebacks. It spends the winter and most of spring under water until on a beautiful day in May (usually) and hence the name, it floats up to the top of the water and sheds its skin. It turns into a beautiful fly but is more like a butterfly. It is generally white. The hatch is fairly spontaneous and literally thousands of these flies flutter around the lake or stream mating. As flies they do not eat, merely mate and lay eggs for next years generation. When complete they die, sometimes with a life of only a day, but what a beautiful day it was. They fall back to the water where they are devoured by fish, mostly trout.............. The sad but beautiful life of the Mayfly..

Flies come from maggots and how long they live depends on the kind of fly that it is. The common house fly lives about 30 days, I believe.
