I am 13 weeks pregnant and I was wondering if I can still sleep on my stomach, sometimes I feel like I am hurting the baby by doing it, but then again if I still can do it then it must be ok. Does anyone know what doctors recommend.

I don't think there is anything wrong by doing it, other than it'll start to get really uncomfortable. The only position that is bad for you and the baby is on your back, and that's beginning at your 4th month. It can cut off blood supply, etc.

The best position for you and the baby is your left side, however, the right side is definitely better than your back.

Yes you can. You'll know when you should stop laying on your stomach because the baby will get too big and it'll be uncomfortable...that's a sure sign it's time to stick to laying on your sides. Also check some of the pregnancy websites but they say laying on your left side is better for blood flow and try not to lay directly on your back after you hit 5 or 6 months I think.

You can sleep however you want to sleep. Ive asked a few doctors about the "never on your back" thing. Its not true. If you wake up on your back roll over.

As far as on your stomach, its safe for as long as your comfortable.

Iam 6 months and still sleep mostly on my stomach. Its perfeclty safe.

If you're pinching the main artery on the right side of your body (the one they tell you you cant sleep on your back because the uterus will cut off circulation and the baby will suffer) you will know. Its not an artery that goes directly to the baby, its the main artery your legs get blod from. My doctor said you will notice that you're uncomfortable and roll over.

The weight of the uterus can irritate your kidneys if it is pressed into your back, either by gravity, or the weight of your body (sleeping on your stomach, or back). But that makes you sore too, and eventually you just end up sticking to your side.

I was really concerned about this until i started asking around. I read all sorts of comments on here from people and even a few nurses who said it was life threatening. lol.

Its not. To you or baby.

I too am a stomach sleeper. It was tuff I think I slept on my stomach for the first 4 months. I kinda used my knee as a crutch so I wasn't fully on my stomach. Then in the mornings my hip would hurt but it worked. Next time I want a lazy boy chair so I can sleep better. It's is sooo great now i can sleep on my stomach. It is such a relief. It was rough and it hasn't gotten any better. Good luck and congrats!

At that time,. if you feel comfort its cool, you will definitely know when its not OK, for example i am 26 weeks pregnant and I simply cant do it, because I feel the pressure that my body put to the belly.... also it will be a time that you will end up sleeping to the side, cause to the back, you will feel like your baby is pushing your organs.

you also may need a couple of pillows to help you sleep better.

so, enjoy while you can.

Even though you aren't that far along, you should go ahead and start making it a habit to lay on your side or back. Once you get further into the pregnancy, not only will it be uncomfortable to you, but it can put pressure on the baby. He/She needs their breathing and moving room. Make a habit of laying on your side or back for the rest of the pregnancy. Good luck with everything.

You are NOT hurting the baby. As long as you are comfortable sleeping on your stomach keep on doing it. The only time there is a problem is if you are a high risk pregnancy, then your doctor will advise you.

This is a good question. I was about to ask the same thing! I'm 21 weeks and I have 2 body pillows that I sleep with (one for each side). I start off on my side, but when I wake up, I end up on my belly. It's not uncomfortable, but when I wake up in the middle of the night on my belly, I go back to my side. When I wake up on my belly in the morning, I wonder how long I've been that way. It kind of worries me too. I'm such a heavy sleeper that I don't know when I'm laying on my belly or my side. I've been trying to train myself to sleep on my side since I found out that i was pregnant and it's not working. I'm hearing all kinds of mixed answers from everyone. I think it's just best to ask your doctor. I'm going to ask mine.

Good luck! (wish me luck too!) :)

I did--until it got too uncomfortable to do so. I would still lay on the floor on my belly when I was pregnant even to nine months. I think it's in moderation. Doctor's recommend laying on your left side. I don't understand that...but yes you must be on your LEFT side, according to my doctor. Just do what you are comfortable with and you'll be fine!

It takes a lot of pressure to hurt the baby. I work for OB docs they say basically if it's comfortable to you (but recommend the assistance of a pillow) then go ahead, but wouldn't reccommend it after 3 or 4 months cuz it can cramp up the baby's space.
