learning difficulties can happen for any number of reasons. you have to introduce many things for the child to begin to understand reading . children need to understand parts of a book and that the words we see written in everything from menus to books to cereal boxes are the words we speak and that they have meaning and are connected (concepts of print and includes writing...anything). you have to make sure your child understands that words are read from right to left, i know is sounds very basic, but it is part of learning to read. you must model reading for him in that i mean read to him, as i am sure you already know.
start with the sounds of letters. say something like, get ready, we are going to do the m sound. just say the sound, do not show him the letter, that comes later. show him the sound then have him do it after you or with you. do this first and then introduce the letters and show that they have meaning. m=mmmmm and so forth. give him every opportunity to write or practice letters for those are also involved in reading and they need to understand that they can write things and be read. magnet letters, chalk, you know the things. even if it looks like gobbledygook. i know all of this sounds basic. phonics is important and phonemic awareness (they are different, phonics is whe you see the letter) is also vital give it a try.
my own son could only read his name up until 10th grade, then a light came on. he now reads very fluently and big novels. it gladdens my heart to see this. when he was about your sons age, i did a lot of reading, he wanted to know what i was reading, i told him, it was a fantasy book, he wanted to hear it. i said, ok. it had about 500 pages. i read it to him every chance we got every day. it was one in series of about 8 and i read every one to him. several times. one day when he was about 11/12 he picked it up and tried to read it himself. by that time, he knew a lot about the book and slowly picked his way through it. he reading began, i believe, when i started reading to him. special ed teachers he had throughout the years told that story to many parents. it worked for my son, and his reading was very low.

You should just start with little books and read each word a couple of times pronouncing every letter and when finish 1 word you go to the next one and when u finish a sentence u could read it again to make sure he gets it right.
If you continue like that he might be able to read better.
That is the same way i taught my little brother to read when we were young

Get your hands on Hooked on Phonics or a phonics based reading program.
Once he learns most of the sounds and can sound out words, context will come easier to him.
Buy phonic workbooks and work with him when you can.
Read to him or get him books he can read along with. The ladybug series is very good.
There are those who pooh pooh phonics but I've found in my years of teaching that it works , eventually but it's a slow process. Encourage him to read you stories, make him sound out the word to you know he doesn't know rather than jumping straight in and telling him the word.
Hope it helps.

I completely accept as true with the poster who pronounced you may concentration on phonics and sight words. i might upload fluency prepare to that. those are the super 3 of analyzing, and that i instruct mom and father to concentration on them in my e book, prepare Your baby to analyzing fulfillment (obtainable on Amazon). right here is yet another element: attempt to relax! i be attentive to that that is hard to no longer hassle, yet you somewhat do no longer want your daughter to experience insufficient. that is hard being in a type all day thinking that all human beings else is analyzing, THEN coming residing house and thinking that your loved ones is upset in you- and comparing you on your older sister. attempt to have the suggestions-set of, "i be attentive to which you will examine quickly! enable's paintings on it mutually." by ability of how, no longer all little ones are analyzing on the beginning up of 1st grade. It was once that 1st grade is once you found out to make sure. we are quite pushing our infants too lots.
