I think a lot goes into names. I places lots of importance on them, but I still respect people's individuality. (Like I respect the Shaquitas as much as the Saras.)
Names can tell you about a person's culture and/or religion before you ever meet them. When someone shortens their name or gives you the meaning or etymology you learn about them & how much they value themselves.
Interesting enough, I know many middle-class white people with "black names" such as Darnell & Juanita. They say that people aren't as nice on the phone & a bit surprised when they meet in person.

A lot.... you know that SanilaKiKi is not white...probably did not come from the most proper educated background....And experts say that people will predetermine that the person with these dumb names is automatically going to have an attitude and a really bad work ethic....it has been proven more often than not
I really wish for the sake of these children, that the parents would think before they would give these unrealistic names to their kids...the names are not pretty..they usually sound like something is being coughed up and the determine a lot of the stereotypes that are going to be put on the child, without the child ever even having a say

Your name is a treasure. People with popular names have always been favored over weird names. Why do mothers give their children names that don't have pretty sounds to them, names that are representative of strange combinations of first and last names, names that cause their children to be ostracized by future employees, children in school, etc?. A name should represent a person in a positive way. Especially, a child should feel good about their name. There are so many beautiful names..a zillion beautiful.....why can't they pick a pretty name? Do they want their child to suffer?

Consider the hard evidence, instead of the political rhetoric. Sarah means Princess in Hebrew. Shawnta means nothing, it just sounds African, which means that the person who named the child is uneucated and will raise an undereducated child who has already been marginalized by society, because of the parents idiocy. Jamel is in the same boat as Shawnta, John is Hebrew for God is Merciful. See what i mean?

Unfortunately, prejudices do exist and some ethnic or nationalistic names could indicate a target of prejudice.
