One very significant point is the depleted uranium in Iraq.
The radiation from the DU shells is causing so much pain and anguish to Iraqis that many of them know they are doomed to die from the cancers thy have caught from the radiation.
So, in order to get rid of the pain, they don't mind killing themselves, and may as well take some of those whom they see responsible with them.
This is why there are so many suicide bombers - because so many people are affected by radiation from the DU weapons, including American soldiers.

yes

Radical Islamic forces understand consciously or unconsciously that their culture is being replaced by secular Muslims.

There is no chance that Christian or Jews or Buddhists will ever hold sway in Muslim countries, but the fundamentalists' fear is that their particular belief system is becoming more marginalized an unimportant.

They strike out blaming the west and hope to cow their countrymen into submission.

Terrorists are only a tiny minority of Islam, but they have currently succeeded in frightening the silent majority. As time goes by without any significant terrorist gain more of the Islamic world accepts democracy and capitalism.

The bomb vests seem a better fit as the options seem fewer.

Notice how suicide bombers are always young people?
The old men that run these terror organizations are no idealists, they are just a bunch of cowardly old farts who get others to die for them, while they count the money and keep the sex slaves.

The are destined for the ash can of history, just not soon enough for my taste.

Well, even if it is a last resort, it may be a successful one. The Viet Cong sent suicide troops against the American Embassy in then-Saigon during the Tet Offensive in 1968, and American generals, thinking largely of Japan's use of Kamakazis during WWII, believed this to be a sign of their weaknes. Unfortunately, however, Saigon is now Ho Chi Minh City and under the control of North Viet Nam; the suicide troops, along with the insane cruelty of other "Cong" tactics, served to demoralize U.S. troops and Civilians and so permitted North Viet Nam--a country, unlike the U.S., prepared for a very long fight--to outlast an enemy unwilling to remain in the insanity of such a war.

Despite the contention of some observers, there is actually no evidence to separate the general motivational framework of Islamic terrorists in general, and Palestinian terrorists specifically, from that which has been observed in other politically and nationalistically motivated suicides. As with other such acts, what is primary is a strong identification with the group and a motivation to sacrifice oneself for the cause. Individual psychopathology or personal feelings of desperation or hopelessness do not appear to play any significant role.

In fact, Palestinian terrorists themselves have denied any link between clinical psychological symptoms and their attacks. As stated by one such terrorist, "This is not suicide. Suicide is selfish, reflects mental weakness. This is istishad (martyrdom or self-sacrifice in the service of Allah)."11

from an individualist perspective, probably.

Obviously, your question is posed to make any negative responses appear as defense of terrorism. To me, it shows the weakness of your argument - I am playing devil's advocate to try to theorize an alternate point of view.

Not all cutures worship individuality as the west does - many have placed emphasis on collective goals.

Japanese kamakazis, for instance, believed heart and soul they were winning - and their lives were a small price to pay for an overall victory. I know US firemen wthat would literally give their lives to save others; perhaps suicide bombers come from a similar perspective. In World War I, many men were 'volunteered' to go to certain deaths, trying to cross No Man's Land - but they went anyway; many knew they weren't coming back.

Palestinians know they are outgunned as far as conventional tactics by Israel and the US, and thus try different tactics.

It's not that different from any number of guerrilla wars, once you get past the willingness to sacrifice one's life for a cause.

The real beasts here are the educated older men/women who are urging their young people to take this sort of action. Some young men are easily motivated by a desire for purpose and can be victimized by these monsters. I cannot even imagine how callous of an individual you would have to be to convince these vulnerable kids to throw their lives away in such a senseless act of violence. In my mind this is nothing less then criminal and should be treated as a crime against humanity.

the reason why there are lots of suicide bomber is that most of the suicide bomber sacrifice themselves in order that when they die they will be in heaven (Muslim belief) and take note there remains (families) are given million or billion dollars as payment for self sacrificing of one of there love ones..so that is why now a days we can hear in the news about suicide bomber...so therefore in my own opinion i don't believe that suicide bombing is the last resort of losers it is a self sacrifice in order to save from hell........as what their teaching say......
