A few years ago I read a book by an award-winning Caribbean author. Unfortunately I don't remember much except an older Cuban (??) couple that had been in Angola during the pre-independence struggle and maybe post-independence (1975). They either owned or managed or stayed in a hotel near the city center. Would anyone be able to tell me the name of the author or the book? If not, is there some sort of search engine that might help me find this information?

I looked around a bit, but couldn't find anything that fit the description. This is the kind of question that a reference librarian at a decent reference library might be able to help you with. Give a call to the librarian in the central library in your city, or at a nearby university and see if they can help.
(I looked at the Library of Congress catalog online, but found nothing that seemed right.)
