My husband and I have been trying to get pegnant for over a year and a half.. and still no pregnancny. So the other night I was watching sex and the city and one of the ladies said that she had chamydia.. and that it is serious because it could make her infertile. So i got to thinking. The last time that I was checked was when I first started dating my husband.. and the doctor asked me if I wanted to get checked my last pap smear and I said no, I don't see any reason to, because I am married. Now I am freaking out thinking that I should go get checked. Because what if I havn't gotten checked and the STD got so bad that it is making me and him infertile?? Is there another way to get an STD without having sex.. like touching something that someone that was infected had??? I'm freaking out. need help.

When you don't get pregnant after a few months all sorts of worries start to fill your mind. The best thing to do is go to you Dr and ask to have a full range of fertility tests (which should include STD tests). It can only be a good thing as if there are any problems it will bring them to light so that you can start to deal with them or, more likely, they will put your mind at rest that there is nothing wrong at all.

Good luck with everything.

The simple answer here is to go to your doctor and tell them your concerns. Testing for STDs is fairly simple, in fact when you get pregnant they test you at your first prenatal visit. If your husband had an STD when you first started dating, there is a chance you didn't catch it right away, if for instance you used condoms at first. If you were to come up with an STD, your husband should be tested too, in case both of you need treated. Some STDs don't show any symptoms, so testing is your best bet. Good luck, and if you are both healthy, consider seeing a fertility expert, you could have a problem like endometriosis or he might have a low sperm count.

It is quite possible that you r husband was infected prior to your marriage considering he wasnt tested. I would see your doctor and get tested for STD's just so you know for sure. As for your answer regarding infertility.....

Infertility results when you have chamydia that has gone undiagnosed for a long period of time. chamydia will result in PID or pelvic inflammatory disease which will cause scarring, scar tissue build up, adhesions and blocked fallopian tubes which in turn result in infertility. Signs and symptoms of PID include, sharp abdominal pain usually in the right or left upper quadrant just under the rib cage or lower abdominal pain, painful sex and discharge.

STD's are spread with sexual contact such as intercourse or oral sex. They cannot be spread any other way. Fell free to look up pelvic inflammatory disease on any search engine for more info. Good luck

Wow, I feel for you. Usually something like Chlamydia doesn't 'present' in women. You might have had an unusual discharge and known what it was and possibly it went away after a day or so. That's why STD's can be so tricky for women.

it is HIGHLY unlikley to get an STD without sexual interaction (oral or vaginal or anal - yes even oral). Go and get checked the worst case scenario is that you had an STD that is causing your fertility issues, the BEST case (and most likely) scenario is that there is no STD, just you guys haven't gotten pregnant yet.

Best of luck to you.

You should get tested at every pap test because u can get std's and other things from different places. And even if ur married u should get the test just so u can be assured that theres no bacterias or std's going on. And yes you can touch things like public toilet s that can spread bacterias and certain std s.
