"SALIM" comes from arabic and it means 'peace'. The actual word in arabic is 'salaam' but as in all languages of semitic origin the root of a word is the consonants, so in essence this is the same word. It is also generally offered as a greeting between two arabs as in "as salaam alaik" meaning 'peace to you' (singular) or "as salaam alaikum" meaning 'peace to you' (plural)

Actually the arabic salaam has a wider meaning than the english peace because it also implies
- to have no concerns
- to be at peace
- to have no ills

Also interesting that the jewish word for peace is very similar ("SHALOM") as arabic finds its origins from the middle-east
