Lately the back pain is constant and sometimes it hurts so bad I can't get out of bed. My docter says that its part of pregnancy.

Oh I know what you're talking about!! I used to get relief by getting my body into a pool or a lake. The water takes the weight off the back. It was the only times I was ever comfortable. Just take some noodles to lean on and get your body buoyant in the water.

I'm sorry. I remember the pain and it's no fun! Don't let anyone tell you that you have a low pain tolerance or anything. It's different for everyone! ;-) OK, remedies:

1. Alternate hot and cold compresses (20min rotations) across the back of your hips.

2. Kneel on all fours and arch your spine up and down. It helps to do this right before bed and when you get up in the morning. I did 40 and it helped with the pain.

3. Try to use good posture. I over compensated for my belly and ended up hurting my spine more.

4. Find a good chiropractor and massage therapist who specialize in pregnant women.

5. Ask your doctor about Tylenol. Sometimes they let you take one a day to help ease the pain.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

I kinda agree with FLSTC - Check with your doctor before doing anything out of the ordinary. Here's my two cents - the pool idea is a great one, you weigh a lot less in a pool and that will take a huge amount of stress off your back. Another suggestion is to switch from cold packs to hot packs and back and forth. Sometimes the difference can ease the pain whereas just one method won't. Good luck! It'll be over soon!

Try a heating pad, Therma wraps, Tiger Balm if heat helps. Mineral Ice works if cool works for you. There is also a great new non smelling topical asprin type cream that gives relief. I like soaking in an Epsom Salt bath and it really helps relax the back muscles.

Good luck and congratulations!

PS You will forget all about the back pain once she's born.

Always check with your doctor first.

I swear by soaking in an Epsom Salt Bath (thanks to my mom/grandma recommendation) during back pain and body aches. That stuff is great but make sure it is o.k. with your doctor first. You will feel so relaxed when you get out of the bath.
I have included a link to a site, I hope this helps you. Take Care of Yourself and Your Baby.

Studies show these benefits from the major components of Epsom Salt may:

Magnesium:

Ease stress and improves sleep and concentration
Help muscles and nerves function properly
Regulate activity of 325+ enzymes
Help prevent artery hardening and blood clots
Make insulin more effective
Reduce inflammation to relieve pain and muscle cramps
Improve oxygen use

Sulfates:

Flush toxins
Improve absorption of nutrients
Help form joint proteins, brain tissue and mucin proteins
Help prevent or ease migraine headaches

Yeah it is but I think the best thing for you to do is get up and move around. I know you are pregnant and I've been pregnant twice -- had the same problem. But NOW if I stay in bed too long my lower back tends to hurt too. Once I am up and moving it gets better. What I really think is the best thing for you -- don't sit OR stand OR lay down for long periods of time (unless doctor told you you must of course). You're carrying extra weight among other things causing this (pressure inside, etc.).

I used a bag of frozen vegetables as an ice pack when I was PG. It works great. You can try alternating between heat and cold. For heat, you can get those therma-care patches from the drugstore and just stick them right on your lower back. Both will help! Good luck - it's almost over! :)

Stand a step away from a wall. Then "sit" so that your feet stay out from the wall, but your back is against the wall. Then press the small of your back against the wall and hold it.

It will give you temporary relief. I forget what it does - something about relieving pressure on certain nerves - but it works.

I know my "ex" used to put hot water in a 2 liter Coca-cola bottle and rest it by the small of her back when we watched TV on the couch. Also, she would get me to give her back massages almost every night before bed.

I know a few friends of mine that actually go to the chiropracter and never had back pain, one of them is pregnant with twins and due any day and she is fine.
Might want to give it a shot. Good Luck!
