Beyond the obvious upset to her sons and estranged husband (who probably only had their millions of pounds and castles to console themselves), why should the death of a semi-educated woman who used public money to do little except go on holiday warrant such a stomach turning 'public outpouring of grief'? Are we now a stupidly sentimental nation placing higher value on celebrity than anything else?

It was an amazing example of media-hyped mass hysteria. The very press who, just a few days before, had been saying things like 'If her IQ was just two points lower she would have to be watered daily' (An actual quote!) suddenly made her Saint Diana, the people's princess.
And the express are still at it - at least once a week they have some Diana-conspiracy headline!

I didn't care a jot. The great unwashed live such meaningless lives that they had to demonstrate emotion publically as an attention-seeking device. 'Look at me - I'm important! I'm in touch with the emotional soul of the country! Behold my participation in something larger than my pathetic generic existance'!
Give me a break. Yes, she did a lot of good work for charity, but then so would I if I had a limitless bank acount and nothing better to do with my time. Ah, Diana, symbol of purity and a role model to all.........oh, except for the numerous affairs, vicious streak and manipulation of the press for personal gain.

first of all to ask why did someone care that someone died is very very cruel.
second of all she was not a semi-educted woman. she was a very well educated princess of Englands Royal family.
Last of all was because the death was very suspicious. It occured the day after her boyfriend Dodi Al Fiyad bought an engagement ring for her. His father Mr Al Fiyad (owner of harrods) has never been allowed a passport and this must be for a reason. The goverment could not have been to happy to hear that Princess Diana was going to marry someone with these connecctions so it is believed by many that she was infact murdered. that is why so many people care. I am not a Royalist myself at all i just happen to know the facts and have the decent humanity to understand the grief people would have felt when a woman who gave so much to charitys and gave so much back to England dies. I reccomend you do reaserch before throwing so many harsh questions at the British Public.

I think people felt an empathy with her, especially after the way she was treated by the royal family. She was also mourned as a wasted young life and a mother, she was also a national icon.
I agree the public grief was a bit OTT for me but I caould understand it, I was ssocked by her death because it was so unexpected.

I think it is a bit harsh to say her family consoled themselves with castles and money, you are talking about what were two very young boys grieving in the forefront of the public eye.
None of us can begin to imagine what they went through and I'm sure they couldn't have given one iota to their money at that time.

I think you are a weak minded materialistic egotistical pratt who has never been loved by anyone and will never love anyone more than yourself which is why you had to ask the question because you can't grasp the concept of love; i feel sorry for you.

People like Diana knew how to love and how to care for others which is why the public mourning of her death was so powerful. We mourned our beloved princess not only for the family she left behind and for the emptiness but for the person who borught 'humanity' and kindness to the national instituttion that is our monarchy.

She will always be missed be people throughout the UK and the world through Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales as well as Engand she was our princess but she was the peoples' princess and her power of compassion far outreached the materialistic and superficial power that our leaders crave.

May she rest in peace and may her family, friends and everyone who knew and accepted her carry on her legacy.

1) Before their marriage - I prayed for many months that God would bring Prince Charles just the right woman into his life to become his mate.

2) Deep injustices were done to a sweet young girl who grew into a lovely woman who showed that she cared about others

3) Her husband wasn't smart enough to realize he had the best when he married her

4) The royal family didn't like that she was informal and reached out to the common people. Diana showed a real humanity that has been lacking in the royal family due to inbreeding (in royal circles - substituting formality and duty for sincere governance and interest in the real benefit to the people of a "kingdom"). Diana was the epitome of a "Queen" and yet didn't live to become one.

5) When Diana tried to find her own happiness (in response to her husband's infidelity), the press just couldn't let her alone, and insisted on hounding her to the point of causing her untimely demise.

Injustice is an evil thing!!!

First off, she did not deserve to die, no more than you or me. However I agree with you outright- she was made in to a martyr over night by the tabloids, who were, only a week before her death, pasting their front pages with stories of her infidelity. Sheer stupidity and no, I mourned her death no more than anyone else I read about in the paper.

Glad to find someone who shared my views!

The media glamourised her to all the gullible audience.

Okay, to be fair she did charity work but I would expectthe world to cry for Mother teresa too if dat's the case.

The media!!!!

you clearly know very little about her and the good work that she did or you would not have made such a fool of yourself on here.
