There are several questions you need to ask yourself before you ask him.
The first one is -- Do you care if he is? If you do care, then I must ask, why? I would be glad to have that conversation by direct email if you wish, my email address is in the signature block.
The second one is -- If you don't care, then why are you trying to find out?
The third one is -- Would he be different if he were gay?
Think about those questions -- then if you don't care and just want to know tell him that it doesn't matter to you but you want to know.
Then, if he says yes, surpress all of the posturing macho bullshit that will surface because of your upbringing and accept him, give him a hug -- and you will have a better friend than you could ever hope for otherwise.
Girlfriends, boyfriends -- all those things don't mean anything -- it is what you desire that makes you gay or straight -- and that pretty much seems to be set.

Reynolds

1.If he is your best friend, tell him that gay or straight it won't affect your friendship.
2.You should not worry too much as long as he doesn't try to rape you. You should feel comfortable with his touch, hugs, kisses etc even if he may get aroused by it.
3.Straight guys also have some gay feelings for their best friends, so if he like someone else then there may be chance of him being gay.
4. Touching himself or mastubating is completely normal. And not doing it means you do not feel comfortable with your body.
5. Last but not the least, there is nothing like completely gay or completely straight. Try not to categorize people as good-bad, gay-straight, ugly-handsome etc.

Ask him. If he is not he might get angry at first but eventually he'll let it go. If I was a woman and my platonic friend kept touching me while I was asleep, I too would be wondering what he was up to (trying to throw you off of his true sexuality, or what?). Don't wait around. Preface your question to him a little but don't back away from this. I've had a friend sort of dilly dally around this issue too, so I know what it is like to wonder. It's almost like they are toying with you, sometimes seemingly indirectly telling you something about themselves and sometimes attempting to throw you off. I for one would never put up with anything like that again from a platonic friend.

Ask him.
If he is your best firend, you ought to be able to just ask.
Do you want him to be so u can mess around or not be, so u can judge him?
If he is touching you and you don't like it, tell him to knock it off. It is sexual abuse. If either of you is underage, cool it.
If you like it, then ask for sure. Cool it, if you are underage.
Some people are bi-, some young people think they are bi or gay and they are really just messing around to test the "edges." After a few relationships, they go back to being straight.
What do you care? He is your best friend: love him either way.

From what you've said it sounds possible that he's gay. I hope it doesn't matter to you and you love and support him either way. One thing I will say is that I woulnd't suggest you ask him, especially as you already asked him before. If he really is your best friend he will tell you in his own time when he has sorted things out in his own mind. One of my best friends is gay and it took him a while to tell me even though I had already guessed. Hope this helps xxx

Hearing that you guys are friends suggests that when he is ready he will tell you. Do not force the subject if he is not ready. People come out of the closet on their own. he might be trying to test you to see if you are someone that he can trust with this precious information. Don't act weird around him or he will be bale to tell and possibly shut down even more.
Good Luck!

Does it matter that much to your friendship? If he is gay let him tell you in his own time and on his own terms. Leave him alone on this one..he could well be struggling internally with it and unable to formulate the questions for himself as yet.

Actions speak louder than words. I had a "cover" girl, due to pressure from society. Since he touched you in your sleep and he touched himself while staring at you - what are you waiting for? Do exactly as he did - and see what happens?

Coming out to your self is the hardest person to come out to. after that the others are a breeze. I think he is not out to himself yet. Just support him and Love him as your best friend.
