I don't have cable so I'm looking for some new box sets to splurge on. Anyone have any recommendations on what I should buy?

I don't have basic channels either (fox, abc, nbc, etc). Basically I have a T.V. and a DVD player and that's why I asked this question. I really appreciate all the input so far. I suppose I'm looking for a drama. I just finished the 3rd season of Nip/Tuck and I'm looking for a show/shows to tide me over until the 4th season comes out on DVD.

I don't have cable either but there are still alot of good series on regular ol' TV.

There's Grey's Anatomy, 24, E.R., Gilmore Girls, etc.....it just depends on what types of shows you like.
If you're really looking to buy some boxed sets I would recommend Sex in the City, Millenium (warning: very good first season, others were okay but the whole storyline never got finished :( ), People say The Shield is cable's 24 but I've seen it....nothing near the awesomeness of 24 :P so yeah get 24, any season (but if you've never seen it before I recommend starting at the 1st & going from there so you have a better idea of who's who & all that, make sure you have 24 hours to devote because you WILL have to keep watching. I like Wonderfalls...only 1 season, but funny.

I agree with Gilmore Girls. 24 is also a great show, it's on fox though, so i don't know if that is considered cable or not? I have recently gotten addicted to Desparate Housewives and Gray's Anatomy - but again, they are on regular TV (abc). That 70's Show is just about all out on DVD now too. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a good show. Not sure what your personal preferences are - so that explains the mish-mosh of suggestions ;), hope those help some!

Most of the shows mentioned are great, Sopranos, West Wing, ER etc. the problem with them is best highlighted however by Lost, if you haven't seen the first lot you're going to be... well, Lost!

As far as new stuff goes this fall, check out Ugly Betty or Jericho

I am not sure what types of shows you like, but Lost is a great show in my opinion! Hmmmm...or how about Grey's Anatomy, or Desperate Housewives?

I enjoy CSI (Vegas). I like trying to guess who the guilty person is before it is revealed. Since they are in season 7 it'll keep you busy for awhile.

depends what you like, but some friends of mine spent months trying to make me watch the West Wing. And I finally did, and it's good. Very intelligent, very funny.
And if you like it, there are seven whole series to get through...
