We went into Iraq after Iraq, for several years refused to comply with the UN resolutions. UN. He fired at planes that were enforcing the no fly zones, he rejected the UN weapons inspectors. Regardless what anybody else says, I think we would have gone into Iraq eventually. I think it was just bad timing that 9/11 happened and now people are confused about Iraq, Afganistan. Iraq has evolved into an anti-terrorist war, but initially it was not. All of the intelligence reports availble to the strongest superpowers on the planet suggested that Iraq had WMD's. Some people still believe that the WMD's were moved to Syria.
And lets not forget that ALL of the congress of the US received the same data, and they all(almost) voted to send troops. So, even the brightest minds in the states, believed what they were reading, and that WMD's existed in Iraq. It was not the wrong thing to do, by going in. Iraq, just a few short years earlier, invaded their neighbor's territory. Iraq had a history of genecide, and executing political opposition. If helping to save the people of Iraq was such a big mistake, then why do other nations want the US to go into places like Darfur? Would that not be the wrong thing to do also? Why do we get critisim for not wanting to touch Dafur?

two different things here

did we go to iraq for the wrong reason? YES
Was it a mistake? NO

why is surely the question most will ask. so here is why.

1. we all know why it was wrong to go
2. I'm a Bill Clinton fan, a huge Bill Clinton fan. I can't stand George Bush or any of his policies, except the war. Think of all the muslims who have poured into Iraq trying to kill our soldiers. those people could have came here just as easy. If you're not aware of this, you should be...Osama Bin Laden declared war on the U.S. in 1996 an urged his muslim faith to follow suit. most muslims believed the way he did, and the attacks on both of our embassys and the uss cole should show you that. I'm not saying we should have went into Iraq, but if I was made to make a choice of a.fight a war there. or b. fight a war here, I think we all know the right answer. on 9/11 muslim's showed support by chanting in the streets of their countries and burning flags. we all seen that. so, by going to iraq we gave to extremists a much closer place to get themselves killed. Its important to me that we remember the distinction between Iraq and the Taliban. Iraq didn't ever encourage the taliban and infact refused support from them. Saddam said they were nuts. but, Saddam did several things against regulation. lets start with a quick list
1. tried to kill George Bush sr.
2. Killed his own people after desert storm
3. Killed prisioners for minor offenses like speeding
4. raped numerous women
5. He even admited he was trying to make it look like he had WMDs to deture Iran from invading (thats a fact, look it up)

there are many more good reasons, but those five alone are more than enough. I'm not trying to bust your balls, but a different perspective is always good.

if you really believe something, even if theres facts and evidence that contradict you, then when you talk about what you believe, you're not lying......... you're just mentally deficient.

it still makes me laugh that ppl bash clinton for having an affair, but they dont have a problem with a draft dodging coke head, and an old man who shoots ppl in the face.

i'm not saying that democrats are better than republicans, or vice versa, because they're all politicians, so they're all bad ppl. but there are better republicans out there than the guys in office right now. and i have a real problem with anyone who cant admit that they made a mistake.

i also dont think a president should base the fate of a nation on what "god told him to do". are you sure its god? maybe its just the acid remnants in your system making you hear things george....

If he were that bright to begin with (as well as not being surrounded by evil henchmen with their own agendas), we wouldn't be in this horrible mess to begin with! Bush believes what his handlers tell him to believe - he doesn't have the capacity for original thought anyway. Of course he'll never admit any mistakes - he has never in life ever taken responsibility for anything. Mommy and Daddy made sure of that!

There is clearly something wrong with this man, AND his party. He believes certain things despite all the facts and evidence to the contrary. As for the Republican party -- did you know that they are spending 90% of their 06 election money on negative campaigning? They have to because they stand for nothing positive themselves, but what does this tell about their commitment to an informed electorate and their commitment to democracy itself? Lies and trickery obtain power, then total incompetence once elected.

Maybe he's right... From his point of view. Depends what HIS reasons were for going into Iraq as to whether HE judges it a mistake or not. Clearly, his reasons differ from what they made everyone else think the reasons were.

He has to be consistant. Admitting that Iraq is a failure would crumble his support among the far-right elitists, the only real support he has

Bush shouldn't be saying those things and come up with a plan to win the peace. He doesn't have one we all know.
