Yes, you can make money from affiliate programs, but you have to be willing to spend so money to do so. There are many people making a very good living through the use of affiliate marketing. A couple of programs I would reccomend are Clickbank and/or Commision Junction. If you have a website, you can make a substantial amount of money on your website by participating in affiliate programs with advertisers.
The key is to use adveritisers' banners and ads that pertain in some way to the theme of your website.

Joining adsense will get you started - and the Google bot visiting you site - usually within minutes. Most other compnaies use an agency like Commssion Junction - that is international and I believe the biggest. Forex offers a lot of commission - but a select group of potential clients.
