I doubt it! Contact your electric company, they may be able to set you up on installments or point you in the direction of an agency that can help.

wow, those first two posters are real idiots. The electric will not send the repo man! GOD WHAT AN IDIOT who said that. Anyway, i think what they are probably talking about is a HEATING grant from the goverment as for your electric now, most companies will work out a payment plan and a managed fee schedule. If you lost your job and your getting unemploymnt, or have proof, im sure they will work something out with you.
Then ask them about what you can do in the future, like applying for the grant for the winter, they want to be paid so im sure they know.

The context is different for every country, but you should probably approach a welfare agency, a ngo/charity or social work agency and get them to refer you.
Where I live, you would then receive financial counselling at the appropriate agency, and they would assist you in finding a job and most likely arrange an alternate payment plan so that you can clear your bill.

Contact your local department of Job & Family Services and they can direct you to the agency that provides the service in your area. Or go to your local HEAP ( Home Energy Assistance Program) office. Good luck
