I don't know, but with the event of cigarette warnings on the side of the packs regarding cancer and whatever for over twenty years now, why are the courts still hearing these?
After all, if the smoker ignores those warnings, how do they win lawsuits?

The argument seems to be that since smokers get hooked on nicotine, the term light implied, at least to them, that the collateral harm caused by other substances in cigarettes, would not be as harmful. However, since the tobacco industry has spent a great deal of money and effort in concealing valuable information, they should pay.

GREED! And the judge should be fired for even letting this go ahead. People have known since at least the 70's that any type of tobacco is bad for your health, if you are stupid enough to keep at it, suffer from your own ignorance.

it's called frivolous.
the lawyers don't care if they win or lose. they get paid by the hour. if they win, then they take 1/2 of the people's money for representing them.
the cigarette companies will pass attorney fees on to consumers through higher prices.
it's the same with all kinds of frivolous suits. why do you think healthcare is so expensive. lots of frivolous malpractice suits; doctors have to buy expensive insurance and pass the costs to the consumer.
who wins? the attorneys. this is one reason the US needs reform in the judicial system.
If you lose your frivolous case, you should have to pay the attorney fees for the defense.

I think if a nickel is handed out in this lawsuit though, they are only rewarding the stupid. It still has a surgeon General's warning for crying out loud.
