I bought a new hard drive for my computer. While my computer was powered on, I tried to replace the old hard drive with a new one. A spark shot from my computer and it powered down. I can't get it to power on. Is there any way to fix this without being an electronics wiz?

I could use more information. I understand that your PC doesn't work either with the old HD or with the new one.

If so. the spark probably tool out the power supply. That's the part that the electricity cable connects to. Try to see if there are any fans working at the back of your PC. If there aren't you should change the power supply (You can't repair it and it's not really worth it, even if you could).
Open the case, take it out and by one that has the same capacity (i.e. the same W).

Sounds like you shorted it out. Dont forget to check the surge strip which would turn off automatically, maybe the surge stripo needs a reset.
However, it is possible that the electronics in the PC which are built in specifically so that your PC is not destroyed when there are surges and power ups and downs, brown outs etc

Pull the plug out of the pc, put the power switch in the off mode, plug the cord back in, plug it into the wall and turn it on! This has worked for me whenever there is what appears to be a failure.

Well first of all, you must power down a pc before pluging things on the inside. Common since, but really, all you did was mess with the power box, check the fuse in the back, or replace the box.

if there was an arc (spark), then most likely you blew a fuse in the power supply.
