I am going into my 8th month of pregnancy. Up until about a month ago I had only gained about 10 lbs. (TOTAL!), but since then I have gain at least 15. It's not showing up anywhere else but my belly, but I'm nervous b/c I have never put on so much weight so rapidly. I'm not going to lie, I do eat sweets but I don't over do it. I count my calories and I have not exceeded my norm. So what is going on? Is this safe?

Sweetie, It's just your body. Your baby will take most anything it can get to make it to that certain weight. If you eat right and count your calories( most women don't) then you are just fine and it is simply the baby taking what it needs. In the eighth and ninth month the baby is supposed to just about double it's size in weight and it's completely normal. I wouldn't say you have gained too much weight. With my first pregnancy, I gained nearly 65 pounds all together! Not pretty. This time around, I had only gained about 6 pounds until I went into my eighth month and my doctor was nearly ready to put me on an IV and hospitalize me. I went in for my eight month check up and I had gained 14 pounds in one month!!! I have gained a total of nearly 20 pounds in this pregnancy. I would say eat what you want and to hell with counting your calories. But if you are adimate about it, then don't change a thing, honey you are perfectly fine and there is nothing to be worried about. Good luck and congrats!!!

Is this 15 total? Or 25 total? At the end, you put on weight fast. They say about a pound a week. My dr. told me they recommend gaining 25-35 lbs total for the pregnancy. Sounds like you're doing great. Don't obsess over it too much. If you're in fairly decent shape before the pregnancy, the weight just falls off of you after you have the baby- especially if you breastfeed the baby. Good luck! Just make sure you're checking in with your dr and getting all of the recommended tests, etc.

if you were a little overweight to begin with, 10 pounds in the first 7 months might be fine, but if you were at or below a healthy weight when you got pregnant, 10 pounds is low for where you are in the pregnancy. In that case, you have a lot of weight (baby, fluid, placenta, supportive muscle and fat) to gain to have a healthy baby, so maybe your body and baby are keeping the weight because you need it. you're pregnant, you should be exceeding your calorie intake from when you were not pregnant. ask your ob what she thinks about it. when i was pregnant, i started out at a healthy weight and gained 30 pounds by the end, and just about all of it was in my belly too. you're baby's growing and that's a good thing. :)

No need to count the calories when you're pregnant. This is the time to enjoy the food, to enjoy everything you can do right now as well, as once the baby comes, everything changes. I gained 70 lbs with mine, but I had an eating disorder which I obviously overcame once I found out I was pregnant, and I was put on bedrest due to the placenta dropping onto the cervix. But the weight comes off.

Your baby is growing more during the last few months of pregnancy. This is normal, most women gain alot of the weight towards the end of the pregnancy.

You said that you are only gaining in your stomach so it is all baby weight.

you are very normal. all women gain weight differently. I know myself with my first 2 pregnancies I gained between 60-70lbs. Yikes! LOL And this time around I have only gain 21 and am entering my 7th month next week. As long as you are feeling ok and the doctor is ok with it.Then you should be fine. Just be watchful of your sugars and blood pressure.
Goodluck

So you have only gained 25 total? Thats not bad at all, lots of women pack it on late in the pregnancy. Just watch what you eat and take you vitamins.

very normal. Your baby is putting on the last few pounds that it needs to have when you give birth. keep in mind. After you give birth to your baby, your baby will loose about 2 pounds. This is hard on a baby. So the more your baby weighs at birth the better. You will drop this weight when the baby is born. No worries.
