A long time ago, we bought a parts car that now runs great and would like to plate it. Problem is there is an old lien on the title. I have found the loan company and will contact them, but is there anything else one can do?

Thanks,
pat

You cant do anything unless they release the lein. You should have known this when you got the title from who you bought it from. If you cant get the lein release, I hope you got a bill of sale from who you bought it from, because I would sue them for everything you have put into it until they get the lein released

the state where the lien was filed may be a state that does not hold on to the title. possibly the debt was written off or it may have been paid but not released. if so a letter from the lien holder releasing the lien attached to a duplicate title will work.

All you can do is pay off the lien, unless you find the people that put the lien on it and talk them into taking it off.

The title you have may be a forgery. I can't imagine the finance company releasing the title without the note being paid in full. You might want to question them on this, and find out what their reasoning is.

I don't have the answer but i just wanted to bring something to your attention. If you look at the question, you will notice that it looks like this when i first looked at it. How to have alien removed from a car? Just thought i'd share that with you.

Go to court and have a judge remove it or pay off the debt.

Pay it off. If it was there before you bought the car, your screwed.
