if this is about YOUR retirement, please check with your Human Resources representative to ensure the Railroad actually paid into social security or will you have you own retirement/pension fund. And yes, you can draw from both retirements - social security is separate from a pension. you can also check with social security to see if you qualify.. Several of my friends discovered their employer hadn't paid into their social security.

Yes, when you retire, one of the things they will ask about is railroad retirement. They will get the best deal for you using both. In my case, I draw a monthly social security check and a separate one from the state of California for the 32 years of my life I gave them.

yes- the railroad is a seperated pension/retirement plan than social security.
