I don't think your question is weird. I have been studying alternative medicine and natural foods for some years now. It is actually very important to check the consistency and color of your poop. I think it floats when you have enough fiber in your diet. Why? Because then it will be solid and have a nice light brown color to it. If it is sinking then maybe it is not very solid.
For those that are weirded out by this question, think of looking at your poop as taking your car for a "Clean Emissions" test. You'll never know how good your engine is running unless you check the levels of what comes out of your exhaust pipe!

RE:
WEIRD QUESTION: If your poop does not float in the toilet what are you lacking or eating too much of?
I know this is a super weird question but I am the kind who will say anything and I wanna know. I heard someone say a bowel movement is considered "healthy" if it floats. Why is that? AND if it doesn't float what are you failing to eat or eating too much of???

Why would poop float? I have never heard that floating poop was desirable. I'm serious. Only time my floats is when I have a lot of gas and I don't like it.
Ok, I'm going to go now. When I start discussing floating poop seriously, time to go. LOL I just realized how funny this is that I'm sitting here discussing this.

You know, I'm glad somebody asked this. Just this morning, I noticed I had some that floated and some that sank. And I'd be lying if I said the question didn't flash through my mind of why it might do that.
Some is more solid than others too, which I've always wondered about, if anyone wants to tackle that one too.

If you poop floats it has gas in it. If it has gas, that is a sign of incomplete digestion. And that's not good- you need to supplement with an enzyme/activated charcoal.
While we're on the topic- the sign of a great digestive system is ONE long poopretzel that sinks to the bottom (and stays there).

Quite the opposite. Fat makes your poopie float. Thus - if you eat too much fat, your poops float. If you eat healthy veges and such, your turds shall sink....
Its a beautiful world out there when we are paying attention to whether or not our dookies float......

We need to take our cues from breastfed babies on this one- No, they do not sink or swim, but a healthy newborn will poo with every meal. Many people who do this think there is something wrong with them when they are only doing what nature provided for in the 1st place. (We are TRAINED to be anal retentive)...
Anyway- I had to throw that in there-
As far as the sinkers and the floaters-
Sinkers are devoid of air, and full enough of fiber; so contrary to what has been said above, you are NOT lacking in the fiber department. (A wholesome and healthy diet will not need fiber supplementation, so do not use this unless you are completely constipated)...
Floaters are full of air (gas) and fat- Even in science class we learned that oil always lies on top of the water- Fat=Oil in your diet. You do not want the floaters my dear, ever-
And it IS a good thing that you are checking them out. While not to become 'anal' about this issue, it is reAssuring to know that there are many health issues that concern this odd topic.
Blood will make them dark, not red. (Beets in your diet WILL make them red; as will bleeding hemmorhoids)... Red blood on your stools is not as medically challenging to fix as dark tarry stools that generally indicate the presense of the digested blood in them.
Activated charcoal is NOT to be taken unless you have diarrhea, as it interferes with normal absorption thus making it impossible for your body to completly use its intake of vitamins, minerals etc... Please use this again- only when necessary! (This is why charcoal is given to OD patients)...
So be peaceful Sweetie- sinkers are the very best to have!
Anne
And as an added PS, the ones that don't sink DO stink more because they are exposed to the air. Sinkers are all covered up by the water in the bowl!
